Voltage SecureMail Quick Start Guide Installing the Voltage SecureMail Appliance
Before installing the Voltage SecureMail software, make sure that the hardware time is set correctly on
The purpose of this guide is to help you install and test basic functionality of the SecureMail server using

Required Information
Gather the following information before you begin the installation:

 Network settings for the Voltage SecureMail Appliance, including the IP address, netmask,
default router and DNS information.
 New passwords for the Voltage SecureMail Appliance admin and root accounts.
 New password for the Voltage SecureMail Management Console web interface admin account.

The installation process is complete and the configuration wizard starts automatically.

4. On the ‘admin’ Password line, type a new password for the admin user and then press the TAB key.

Configuring the Appliance 6. On the ‘root’ Password line, type a new password for the root user and then press the TAB key and
retype the password you just entered.

note A second IP address is only necessary in advanced Voltage SecureMail deployments. If you want
to add a second IP address later, you can do so from the Appliance menu.

10. Enter the Default Router IP address and then press the TAB key. The Enter Account Information for Upgrades page is displayed.
11. With Next highlighted, press ENTER.
The Hostname & DNS page displays.

fields empty if you cannot access the Voltage upgrade repository.

13. Enter the IP address of your Primary Name Server and then press the TAB key.
14. If you are using a Secondary Nameserver, type the IP address for the Secondary Nameserver and
then press the TAB key. If you are only using one Nameserver, press the TAB key to bypass the line.
15. With Next highlighted, press ENTER.
A summary of your network settings is displayed.

19. Select Stand-alone to continue with the set up wizard and press the TAB key to highlight Next and
then press ENTER.
The Management Console Password page displays.
20. On the Management Console Password page, type a new password for the admin user on the ‘admin’
line, and then press the TAB key.

Using the Voltage SecureMail Setup Assistant
The Voltage SecureMail Setup Assistant lets you set the parameters that are required for normal Voltage
SecureMail operation.These include setting the email domain, the SMTP mail host, and the company logo
you want to display.
To configure the Voltage SecureMail basic parameters:
1. Open a browser and log into the Management Console using the URL that was displayed on the final
page of the configuration wizard (https://<hostname>:8443/console).
The Login page displays.

21. On the Confirm Password line, type the Management Console admin password again to confirm it.
22. Press the TAB key to highlight Next and press ENTER.
The next page displays a message that you have successfully configured the Voltage SecureMail
Appliance and the URL that you can use to log in to the Management Console.

2. Enter the user name <admin> and the password for the Management Console that you entered in
the Installation wizard (Step 20 on page 3) and click Log In.

23. Write down the URL and with Finish highlighted, press ENTER to exit the wizard.
24. On the Appliance Configuration menu, highlight Back and press ENTER to display the Main menu.
25. To exit the Main menu, highlight Exit, then press ENTER.

At this point the Setup Assistant automatically creates an email account for support related issues at
the primary email domain you entered, for example support@<primary email domain>. After
completing this wizard, you can change this value from the Tenants tab of the Management Console.
Click the Edit link for the tenant to display the General tab of the Tenant Details page, where you can
change the Support Email Address field.
5. Enter the Primary Email Domain, and optionally, the Outgoing SMTP Mail hop and select your

The Look and Feel page displays. a. Send a secure message using the Zero Download Messenger (ZDM) web interface, located at
https://voltage-pp-0000.<yourdomain>/login.
b. Send a secure message from a Voltage Encryption Client. To test the client, until you obtain a
valid SSL certificate for your server, install the temporary Voltage certificate authority located at
https://<yourconsole>:8443/console/wizard/voltageTempCA.cer.
c. After you have received a valid SSL certificate for voltage-pp-0000.<yourdomain>, install it in
the Management Console Tenants > Hostnames and SSL Certificates screen.
d. Configure your outbound email to point to your Voltage SecureMail Gateway, which encrypts all
messages by default.

Disable User Verification


To test the first time installation, you can turn off user verification when reading or composing a message
and during first time enrollment from the Management Console.
To turn off user verification:
1. From the Management Console, navigate to Services > ZDM services > User Verification tab and
set Sender and Recipient Verification to Do Not Verify.

8. Select an image to display on your secure email messages by clicking Browse. Address Verification to Never.

9. Click Finish. caution These settings are less secure and not recommended for live deployments.
