Course Description: Curriculum Development
Topic: Delivery of Curriculum through Technology
Professor: Dr. Haidi Morales

Reporter: Dana Marinella B. Revoltar

I. Introduction

The Role of Technology in Curriculum Delivery. It can easily be observed that

technological innovation in the multifarious fields of commerce, science and education,
is fast developing such that it is difficult to foresee the technological revolution in the
millennium, inclusive of educational changes. For certain, however, technological
changes in education will make its impact on the delivery of more effective, efficient and
humanizing teaching and learning.

II. Discussion/Content

What is technology?

“the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by
creating, using and managing appropriate technological processes and resources.”

Stage of Instructional Planning

Right at the planning phase of any instruction, aside from formulating the
objectives and among other considerations, there is a need to identify what
instructional media are to be utilized in the implementation. In delivering the curriculum
the role of technology is very important.
In a teaching-learning situation, there is a crucial need to provide learners
information that forms a coherent hole. Otherwise, learning may end up half-hazard
and in the end, it will be ineffective.

Each learning must have a specific goal, instructional objectives, content, learning
activities, media/materials, assessment and evaluation on how objective can be
achieved.

Types of Instructional Media/Technology

Technology offers various tools of learning and these range from Non-Projected
and Projected Media.

 Non-Projected Media
Instructional materials that do not require the process of projection before
its operation can take place.

 Projected Media
Instructional materials that require projection and electricity in their using
process.
Criteria on Assessing a Visual Material/Presentations

Assess a visual material or presentation (a transparency or slide) using the

following criteria:

a. Lettering Style or Font – consistency and harmony

b. Number of Lettering Style – no more than in static display (chart, bulletin
board)
c. Use of Capitals – short titles or headlines should be no more than 6 words
d. Lettering Colors – easy to see and read. Use of contrast is good for
emphasis
e. Lettering Size – good visibility even for students at the back of the
classroom
f. Spacing between Letters – equal and even spacing
g. Spacing between Lines – not too close as to blur at the distance
h. Number of Lines – no more than 8 lines of text in each transparency/slide
i. Appeal – unusual/catchy, two dimensional, interactive (use of overlays or
movable flaps)
j. Use of Directional – devices, arrows, bold letters, bullets, contrasting color
and size, special placement of an item.

Factors for Technology Selection

1. Practicality
 Is the equipment (hardware) or already prepared lesson material (software)
available? If not, what would be the cost in acquiring the equipment or
producing the lesson in audial or visual form?
2. Appropriateness in relation to the learners
 Is the medium suitable to the learners’ ability to comprehend? Will the medium
be a source of plain amusement or entertainment, but not learning?
3. Activity/Suitability
 Will the chosen media fit the set instructional event, resulting in information,
motivation, or psychomotor display?
4. Objective-matching
 Overall, does the medium help in achieving the learning objectives?

Three Current Trends that could carry on the Nature of Education in the Future

I. Paradigm Shift
- From teacher-centered to student-centered approach.

II. Broadening Realization on Education

- That education is not simply process of giving facts and
information but an educative process of cultivating a student’s
cognitive, affective and psychomotor skills, as well as the
contemplative intelligence of the learners.
III. Increase Use of ICT
- The use of ICT in the teaching-learning process.
The Role of Technology in Curriculum Delivery

1. Upgrading the Quality of Teaching-Learning in School

2. Increasing the Capability of the Teacher

 To effectively inculcate learning and for students to gain mastery of the lessons
and courses.

3. Broadening the Delivery of Education outside Schools

 Through non-traditional approach to formal and informal learning such as open
universities and lifelong learning to adult learners.

4. Revolutionizing the Use of Technology

 To boost educational paradigm shift that gave importance to student-centered
and holistic approach

In mastery of approach of instruction, the teacher:

o Presents the lesson to the whole class

o Assess the learners if they attain the mastery of the lessons
o Provide enrichment activities with use of media/technology
o Re-mediates the non-mastery student
o Move on to the next lesson

III. Conclusion
Technology is a versatile and valuable tool for teaching and learning and becoming a
way of life. The most important thing is that teachers need to be prepared to use
these technologies effectively. Schools can use technology effectively and for the
welfare of students, teachers and society, it must be done.

It is a time of great possibility and progress for the use of technology to support
learning especially in this time of pandemic.
