You are on page 1of 3

HELLO EVERYONE! THIS IS ROAN B. LONGAKIT AND LEVINE SHAIRA BELLO.

AND NOW, WE ARE GOING TO DISCUSS THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF SPEECHES ACCORDING TO
DELIVERY.

First we have IMPROMPTU . (BASAHON 1 AND 2 LINE)

SO, YOU GIVE AN IMPROMPTU SPEECH WHEN YOU ARE ASKED TO SPEAK ON THE SPOT. AND
YOU DO NOT KNOW AHEAD OF TIME THAT YOU WILL BE SPEAKING BEFORE A GROUP.
SO ONE OF AN EXAMPLE OF IMPROMPTU SPEECH IS BEAUTY PAGEANT.

SO, EVERY TIME WE WATCH BEAUTY PAGEANT, THE MOST AWAITED PART IS THE QUESTION
AND ANSWER PORTION. KAY TUNGOD GUSTO NATO MAHIBAL AN, IF THESE BEAUTIFUL WOMEN
ARE WOMEN OF SUBSTANCE. BUT ANSWERING A QUESTION WITHOUT PREPARATION AT ALL
REQUIRES A LOT OF WIT AND CONFIDENCE. IT IS NOT EASY. LISOD KAAYO NA. WE MAY HAVE
RED A LOT OF INFORMATION BUT ANSWERING A QUESTION FOR 20 OR 30 SECONDS IS
DIFFICULT. DIBA? MAKAYA NA NINYO? ABSOLUTELY, AND I THINK I CANT HANDLE IT TOO.

ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF IMPROMPTU ARE:

MEETINGS, WHERE YOU GIVE YOUR OPINIONS OR SUGGESTIONS.
AMBUSH INTERVIEWS, WHERE JOURNALISTS ASK YOU QUESTIONS
AND ALSO CLASS RECITATION .

THERES ALSO AN ADVANTAGE AND DIASADVANTAGE IN IMPROMPTU.

 The advantage of this kind of speaking is that it’s spontaneous and responsive in an animated
group context.
 The disadvantage is that the speaker is given little or no time to contemplate the central theme of
his or her message. As a result, the message may be disorganized and difficult for listeners to
follow.

BECAUSE IT IS ON THE SPOT. IT IS EASY FOR YOU TO PERFORM POORLY. SINCE YOU
HAVE NO TIME TO PREPARE, AND THIS OFTEN RESULTS TO RAMBLING, WANDERING
AND WASTING BOTH YOUR TIME AND YOUR AUDIENCE TIME AS WELL. AND PEOPLE MAY
SAY HMMM WALA NKO KASABOT UNSAY IYANG GIPANG STORYA .

Here is a step-by-step guide that may be useful if you are called upon to give an impromptu
speech in public.
1. Take a moment to collect your thoughts and plan the main point you want to make .
THIS MEANS THAT YOUR OPENING SENTENCE SHOULD BE AN ATTENTION GETTER.
STATE A FIRM, CLEAR, SPECEFIC STANDPOINT OR POSITION.
2. Thank the person for inviting you to speak.
3. Deliver your message, making your main point as briefly as you can while still
covering it adequately and at a pace your listeners can follow.
4. Thank the person again for the opportunity to speak.
ANOTHER TYPE OF SPEECH IS EXTEMPORANEOUS SPEECH
 Extemporaneous speaking is the presentation of a carefully planned and
rehearsed speech, spoken in a conversational manner using brief notes. By
using notes rather than a full manuscript, the extemporaneous speaker can
establish and maintain eye contact with the audience and assess how well
they are understanding the speech as it progresses. The opportunity to
assess is also an opportunity to restate more clearly any idea or concept
that the audience seems to have trouble grasping.

EXTEMPORANEOUS IS A COMMON ACTIVITY DONE IN SCHOOL ESPECIALLY DURING ENGLISH

FESTIVAL OR EVEN INSIDE THE CLASSROOM. THIS TYPE OF SPEECH GIVES YOU AN
OPPORTUNITY TO PREPARE. YOU DELIVER IT BY REFFERING OCASSIONALLY EITHER TO YOUR
OUTLINE OR TO YOUR BRIEF NOTES WHICH MAY HELP YOU TO RECALL SPECIFIC POINTS OR
IDEAS. WELL, IT MAY NOT BE AN ON THE SPOT TYPE OF SPEAKING, WITH THE LIMITED TIME, IT
IS STILL NOT EASY TO HANDLE. KAY TUNGOD KINI NGA CONTEST, GINAHATAGAN LANG ANG
CONTESTANT UG 4 TO 5 MINUTES PARA MAG PREPARE.

NEXT IS SPEAKING FROM MANUSCRIPT.

 Manuscript speaking is the word-for-word iteration of a written message.
 The advantage to reading from a manuscript is the exact repetition of
original words. (basahon)

this is an advantage for people who want to practice in advance the delivery of their speech and of
course, since it is a manuscript reading IT IS WELL PREPARED.
Some examples of manuscript are:
PRESIDENT SPEECH DURING SONA AND EVEN GRADUATION SPEECH.
YOU KNOW I RECALL IN OUR SCHOOL WE REQUIRE OUR HONOR STUDENT TO READ OR TO
FAMILLIARIZE THEIR SPEECH. THEY MUST BRING A COPY TO MAKE IT SURE THEY WONT
MISSED ANYTHING AND THEY CANNOT USED OTHER WORDS THAT MAY DRAG THE PROGRAM.

 However, there are costs involved in manuscript speaking. First, it’s typically
an uninteresting way to present. Unless the speaker has rehearsed the
reading as a complete performance animated with vocal expression and
gestures (as poets do in a poetry slam and actors do in a reader’s theater),
the presentation tends to be dull. Keeping one’s eyes glued to the script
precludes eye contact with the audience. For this kind of “straight”
manuscript speech to hold audience attention, the audience must be already
interested in the message before the delivery begins.

SO WHAT DO YOU THINK THE DISADVANTAGE OF READING A MANUSCRIPT?

SINCE THE SPEECH IS RECITIVE FROM A MANUSCRIPT, IT LACKS IMPACT ON THE AUDIENCE. AS
A RESULT, IT IS NOT REALLY ENTISING COMPARE TO OTHER WAYS OF SPEAKING LIKE
CONVERSATIONAL OR NATURAL CONVERSATION.
ANOTHER TYPE OF SPEECH ACCORDING TO DELIVERY IS THE OPPOSITE OF THE MANUSCRIPT
READING. IT IS MEMORIZED SPEECH.
 Memorized speaking is the rote recitation of a written message that the speaker has committed to
memory.
 The advantage to memorization is that it enables the speaker to maintain eye contact with the
audience throughout the speech.

MEMORIZE SPEECH IS DELIVERING A SPEECH THAT IS RECALLED VERBATIM FROM A

TEXT. IT IS DONE BY PREPARING A WRITTEN SPEECH AND MEMORIZE IT WORD FOR
WORD. I RECALL WHEN I WAS IN ELEMENTARY, MOST GRADUATION SPEECHES YEARS
AGO WERE MEMORIZED AND WE REALLY ADMIRE THOSE HONOR STUDENTS BECAUSE
THEY DIDN’T BRING A COPY AND THAT’S IMPRESSIVE

THERE IS ALSO A DISADVANTAGE IN MEMORIZING SPEECH.

BECAUSE AT SOME POINT, YOU MIGHT FORGET WHAT IS NEXT AND THIS MAY CAUSE
EMBARRASMENT AND IT WILL BE DIFFICULT TO GET BACK THE TRACK.
AND EVEN YOU MEMORIZED DURING PRACTICE BUT DURING ACTUAL PRESENTATION,
YOU GET NERVOUS, THE AUDIENCE CAN SENSE THAT YOU ARE ALREADY NERVOUS.
YOU NOTICE THAT YOUR VOICE WILL CHANGE.

I know that you are all potential speakers. I’m sure that some of you here have experience
delivering speeches during special occasions such as graduation. Well speaking about
speeches, we are going to discuss the different types of speeches according to delivery.
