extend a maximum of 0.5 m into the carriageway and a
maximum of 0.2 m into the footway.
A. The covers/gratings and frames shall be inspected with naked eye to assure absence
of any visible defects such as fractures, cracks, bending, pits, protrusions and
blowholes.
B. The coating layer shall be examined with naked eye, to assure that the
covers/gratings and frames are completely coated and that the coating layers are
smooth and completely adherent to the surface, ensuring that there is no sand under
the coating layer.
C. The cover shall be fixed in its relevant frame. They shall be tight with plane surfaces,
and the cover shall not shake when placed in its position.
B. The frame diameter/side shall be measured at the inside of the upper edge in
4 positions distributed on the circumference and the mean value taken.
C. The difference between the diameter/side of the cover/grating and its frame, as
measured in pars. 2.06 A and B above shall be calculated.
E. The depth of the frame flange (the distance between the upper edge of the frame and
the surface of the flange on which the cover is supported) shall be measured in
4 positions, distributed on the circumference and the mean value taken.
A. General
2. Compliance with the loading requirements for the appropriate class shall be
determined by loading test.
2. To detect any crack or fracture, if formed in the test unit on the application of

intermediate layer shall not be larger than those of the test block. A similar
intermediate layer shall also be positioned between the bed of the testing
machine and the test unit.
1. The test load shall be gradually applied at a rate of 1 to 5 kN/s, up to 2/3 of the
