SIZE: 14 to 26 inches
➢ Young monkeys are carried on the stomach of their mothers until they are around
16 weeks old.
➢ Brown-headed spider monkey babies have pink faces and ears from birth.
➢ Although the exact size of a spider monkey baby is not mentioned, they continue
to grow and reach their average size which is 14 to 26 inches.
Environment and Habitat
➢ Tropical rainforests of Central and South America
➢ they live mostly in the upper canopy, preferring undisturbed high forest,
almost never coming to the ground.
➢ Since the ground is filled with vicious predators and unknown dangerous to
spider monkeys they stay in the canopy layer where they can swing from
vines and sleep and hang on the trees peacefully

What Do They Eat ?
➢ Frugivores - meaning they enjoy a diet high in fruit and seeds.
➢ They eat the ripe soft portions of a broad range of fruits, swallowing the seeds
along with the fruit.
➢ Young leaves, flowers, aerial roots, bark and decaying wood, as well as honey, are
consumed by spider monkeys.
➢ When feeding, they may hang by their tails and reach out for food with their
hands.
➢ A very small part of the diet consists of insects, insect larvae and birds eggs.
