Divisional Charts
However, if accurate birth time is not available, divisional charts are misleading, and
should be ignored
Merely Rashi Chart cannot reveal all aspects of life. For example, if there is need of
considering educational prospect of a native, all related factors required to bring
under scanner. Education is not an independent thing that has to come to the native
singularly. In the course of his education, several factors would be in force to
influence his education. For this, there would be need to understand student’s
inclination, approach, inquisitiveness, intelligence, grasping level, memory etc.
Besides, there would be need to understand obstacles, competition, companion on
the path and environment at home, school/college, society also. Thereafter, his
performance and success in education can be assessed. Hence, to take account of all
such factors there should be different-different tools – Lagna Chart alone will not give
entire picture. Various Lagnas, Charts, Dasha Systems etc are few tools which are
used to consider all factors and arrive at a definite conclusion.
Maharishi Parashara has advocated to use Varga Chart in addition to other tools to
understand the particular aspect of life. For example if there is need of knowing all
about of life partner from a horoscope of other partner, what is way of knowing it,
because ‘all about of life partner’ covers various aspects and will birth (D-1) chart
only be capable to indicate satisfactorily? No doubt Planets (as per Bhava Karaka,
Sthira Karaka and Char karaka), Signs (as per elements, Quality and Polarity) and
Houses (as per Kendra, Trikona, Trik, Upachaya, Panapara and Apoklimas) of Natal
chart reveal the same in broad way but it finds expression if the matter is studied
along with respective Lagna, planet, divisional chart etc. In case of life partner, 7th
house in D-1 shows approach towards relationship, 7th house in D-9 indicates traits
and character of partner & 7th from Venus distance from the location of partner,
Upapada gives hints of type of marriage, Upapada Lord stands for status of wife, 7th
from Upapada may reveal impediments in marriage, Al from UL meeting place of
partners, 2nd and 8th from UL determines the longevity of marriage, Sexual desire is
expressed by Saptamarudha, Venus gives native an opportunity to experience the
relationship. Thus, we see that the concept of Divisional Charts & others in Parashara
& Jaimini System are how much essential.
Parashara had mentioned about 16 Vargas. Each Varga has 12 houses. Therefore,
Shodasha Varga Chart will give us 192 (16 x 12) Bhavas representing variety of aspects
of human life. Varga Charts indicate Promise, Potential Resource, and materialization
of an event. Resource is indicated by a particular Bhava -Bhavesha, occupant and
other associated planets with the Bhava. Potentiality is determined by their strength,
Avasthas etc.
In other word, if any aspect of life is required to be studied then we will have to
consider on
Result will be delivered as per the resource available (indicated by functional nature
of planet, Yoga formed due to accidental placement and other influence, planetary
strength in Shadbala, Vimshopaka Bala and Ashtakavarga Bala) in the horoscope.
Each divisional chart identifies a specific nature of the chart as given below
Rashi Chart (30°):D-1 is the basic chart from where horoscope study of destiny
begins. This chart indicates physical body and its related activities. The other
divisional charts are sub-divisions of this chart.
Hora chart (15°): D-2 chart deals with wealth, sustenance, money matters. This
chart helps in understanding the wealth position and financial matters of a native.
Male planets in the Sun's Hora are taken as beneficial while female planets are
effective in the Moon's Hora. If maximum planets are in the Sun's Hora it is said that
the native earns money as a result of hard work but the quantum of wealth may be
very good. If Moons Hora predominates, the earning will be relatively easy. However,
this is subject to the Dhana yoga formed in the horoscope.
Before analyzing the Drekkana chart, we have to consider the Rashi chart, of 3 rd, 5th
7th, 9th and 11th houses. 11th house stands for elder brother/sister while 3rd house
represents younger born. When there are younger brothers, we have to see 3rd to 3rd
house (5Th house) and 3rd to 5th house (7th house) and so on. For elder brothers, we
have to see 11th to 11th house (9th house) and so on.
Saptamsha (4° 17’ 8”): D-7 Saptamsha represents children. Before analyzing we have
to see the 5th house and 5th lord in the Rashi chart.
Dasamsha or Swargamsha (3°): D-10 Chart indicates “Mahat Palam” i.e. the result
which indicates the standing and status of the native in society on account of the
interaction of fate and action. Normally this chart is consulted for getting clear idea
about Career, Profession, Occupation, Work etc. The placement and Avastha of the
tenth lord of the birth chart is important here. Apart from that the Rashi rising in the
10th house of this divisional chart and the influence on the 10th house has also to be
considered, to judge the profession and any professional growth or fall of the native.
We have to see 10th house and 10th lord from Ascendant and the Moon sign also.
Vimsamsha (1°30’): D-20 chart tells about Spiritualism and progress in this field,
worship of deity, leaning towards a particular sect.
Trimsamsha (1°): D-30 chart is consulted to ascertain the difficulties, evils and
miseries coming through mishaps and diseases for a particular native. This chart
indicates inclination of natural traits based on Trigunas – Satwik, Rajasik and Tamasik.
Brihat Jataka tells us about placement of planets in Trimsamsha and their effects for
Male horoscopes. Saravali details the placement of Trimsamsha with particular
reference to women.
Akshavedmsha (40’): D-45 chart shows the character of the native. Paternal legacy is
also seen from this chart.
Sashtiamsha (30’): D-60 chart shows Past Karma, repayment of deeds of the past
lives. D-1 and D-60 are complementary to each other. D-1 chart indicate when and D-
60 tells why events happen in the life of the native. Maharishi Parashara has given
lots of importance to this chart and has advised to consult this chart for every
prediction.
Definitions
Karya Rashi is the house, which is the center of focus of the activity related to a
Divisional chart. A D-chart may have many important houses like a Dashamsha where
the sixth house is examined for service related matters or the seventh house is
examined for business, but the focus is the tenth house and for the Dashamsha, the
tenth house is the Karya Rashi. The Lord of the Karya Rashi in the Rashi Chart should
be well placed in the concerned divisional chart for the activity (Karya) to prosper.
Karyesha is the significator of the Karya (activity) and will vary from one chart to
another depending on the activity involved. For example, in the Dashamsha
(profession) a person can have many Karyesha depending on the activities he is
involved in. As an example let us consider President Bill Clinton. He is a politician and
also a lawyer. The Karyesha for politics is the Sun (note – Moon is for Bureaucracy)
and that for a legal profession is Jupiter. Depending on the placement and strength of
these planets in the Dashamsha, the rise or fall or changes in career can be studied
and predicted.
Karaka means significator and are classified into the three categories of Naisargika,
Chara and Sthira karaka.
Harmonics
Atman means the soul and karaka means significator. Atmakaraka is the significator of
the soul’s desire. According to the Vedic philosophy a soul is reborn because it has
unfinished desires that were left unfulfilled in the previous lives and it is born again
to get another opportunity to satisfy them. What are these desires? Will they be
fulfilled or will you struggle with them? This is revealed by the Atmakaraka planet.
One of eight planets (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn and Rahu) can be
your Atmakaraka depending on its degrees in the natal chart. The planet that has the
highest degree, ignoring the signs, is considered the Chara Atmakaraka.
• House where AK is placed and the sign in birth chart and all divisional charts.
• Reading the chart with AK as ascendant will give you a lot of clues
• Connection between AK and Lagna lord in your birth chart and D9 chart.

Karakamsha
The position of your Atmakaraka planet in your D9 (Navamsha chart) becomes very
important and it is called as “Karakamsha”.
• The 9th house from Karakamsha would show about your spiritual progress.
• Planets in the 5th house from Karakamsha would show you about your inherent
talents and life path.
There is a popular technique used by K.N. Rao which is to use the Karakamsha sign
from the D9 chart as your ascendant in the birth chart and examine your birth chart.
For example, the 10th house from the Karakamsha sign as ascendant will show you the
destiny of your career.
Atmakaraka plays an important role in finding your Ishta Devata. The twelfth house
from the Karakamsha in your D-9 chart is called the Jivanmuktamsha. If there is a
planet in that house the deity related to that planet becomes your Ishta Devata if not
look for the ruler of that house.
Groupings
Shodasha Vargas / Sixteen Divisional Charts have been classified in the following four
groups:
Shadvarga
Saptavarga
Shadvarga
Saptamamsha Chart (D-7).
If planet in good Vargas in D-7, it is called Mukuta.
Dashavarga
Saptavarga
Dasamsha Chart (D-10),
Shodasamsha Chart (D16)
Sashtiamsha (D-60).
If Planets are in good Vargas in this classification from 2 to 10 Vargas, it is called
Parijaat, Uttam, Gopur, Simhasan, Parvat, Devlok, Brahmalok, Shakravahan and
Shridham.

Akshavedmsha (D45) If Planets are in 2 to 16 good Vargas, they are called (according
to BPHS) Bhedaka, Kusuma, Naga Pushpa, Kanduka, Kerala, Kalpavriksha,
Chandanvana, Poornachandra, Uchcheshrava, Dhanvantari, Suryakaanta, Vidruma,
Shakra Simhasana, Gauloka and Shrivallabha.
1. Physical plane: First cycle covers physical level signified by the possible charts
from D-1 to D-12. In this cycle included Parashara D-charts are - D-1 indicates Physical
body, D-2 - Means of sustenance (sampanata), D-3 - Co-born, D-4 - property and
fortune, D-7 – Progeny, D-9 - Spouse, D-10 – Karma, profession, D-12 - Parents. [Later
Research minded astrologers have included D-5 (Power), D-6 (Struggle, Physical
Labour, disease), D-8 (Death), D-11 (Gains) charts also in this cycle].
2. Conscious mental plane: Second cycle covers conscious level signified by possible
charts from D13 to D24. In this cycle included Parashara D-charts are - D16 (12+4)
ruling over mental happiness, luxuries, vehicles etc, D20 (12+8) ruling over occult
studies, spiritualism, religiosity etc and D24 (12+12) Ruling Siddhis, accomplishments
in any branch of learning and vocational studies, success in education.
5. Past births of the native: Fifth cycle covers supra-conscious level signified by
possible charts from D-49 to D-48. In this cycle included Parashara D-charts are – D60
indicating heritage of the past Karma, which are responsible for present birth. A
planet in malefic Sashtiamsha is not capable to give lasting good results on account of
the past bad Karma.
Planets become more and more auspicious by gaining more and more strength of
their own, exalted or friendly Vargas. Accordingly, the status thus acquired by planets
stands graded for easy identification etc.
• When a planet acquires two out of sixteen such own or exalted Vargas or
divisions then it is known to have gained the status called the Parijatamsa or
Bhedakamsa
• When three Vargas are gained then the Uttamamsa or Kusumamsa or
Vyanjanamsa
• Four – the Gopuramsa or Naagpushpamsa or Kimshukamsa or Chaamaramsa
• Five – the Simhasanamsa or Kundakamsa or Chhatramsa
• Six – the Parvatamsa or Keralamsa or Kundalamsa
• Seven – the Devalokamsa or Kalpavrkshamsa or Mukatamsa
• Eight – the Kumkumamsa or Brahmalokamsa or Chandanvanamsa
• Nine – the Iravatamsa or Poornachandramsa
• Ten – the Vyshnavamsa or Shridharamsha or Ucchaishrvamsa
• Eleven – the Saivamsa or Dhanvantriamsa,
• Twelve – the Bhaswadamsa or Suryakantamsa,
• Thirteen – the Vaisheshikamsa or Vidrumamsa,
• Fourteen – the Indrasanamsa,
• Fifteen – the Golokamsa
• Sixteen – the Shrivallabhamsa
2. Rashi does not give complete picture of all 12 Bhavas in a Dasha and a Bhukti.
3. Divisional charts spell out in clear terms Dasha/Bhukti effects on all 12 Bhavas.
5. Since each Bhava has many Karakatwas, it is difficult to differentiate each Bhava
Karakatwa on Rashi chart only.
In other words, Ascendant lord should be very strong in the divisional chart and
Ascendant should not be occupied by malefic planets.
1. The positions of Karakas in relation to the Ascendant of the Divisional Chart are
important.
2. Special emphasis is made to Drekkana, Saptamsha, Navamsha and Dwadasamsha as
karakas in these charts should not occupy the Ascendant.
Note:
However, we have a dictum known as “Karako Bhava Nashaya” meaning: The Karaka
destroys the house it represents! Simply put, the planet which is the significator for
that house, if placed in that house itself destroys the significations of that house. For
example: Jupiter in 5th, Venus in 7th and Mars in 3rd and so on. Some learned
astrologers have opined that this principle mostly harms the living beings it represents
than the inanimate aspect of life.
Now to our current topic of Divisional Charts, Karaka should not occupy Lagna of that
particular chart since it is supposed to destroy the Bhava. I have specially emphasized
four important aspects of life, namely Drekkana (D-3) which represents siblings,
Saptamsha (D-7) for issues, Navamsha (D-9) for Spouse and Dwadasamsha (D-12) for
parents as these aspects represents living beings. If respective Karakas occupy the
Lagna of the Divisional Chart it may not give the desired result.
3. Karaka position in other divisional charts especially in Ascendant will not affect the
Karakatwas of the respective chart.
4. Karakas should not occupy Dusthanas
5. Mars and Jupiter should be considered as additional Karakas in a female chart in
the Navamsha.
Transits
Transit of Saturn over the moon's position in each divisional chart is important. It acts
as 2 ½ years of Sade Sathi for that divisional chart.
4. If they occupy Kendra and Trikona or are in 3 and 11 positions they are good.
5. The mutual position of Dashanatha or Bhuktinatha will not be same in all divisional
charts. In one chart it may be good in another it may not be. For this reason there is a
mix of good and bad things. In other words a native may be happy in one aspect and
unhappy in another aspect of life. These things are made clear in divisional charts
while it may not be possible to understand the 12 aspects of life in a major/minor
period according to Rashi chart alone.
Hora
Birth in Sun or Moon Hora
All people are either born in the Hora of the Sun or Hora of the Moon. You need to
just learn which Hora you were born into. Hora of the Sun is about daytime and Hora
of the moon is about night time. Planets that are strong in Hora of the Sun are (Sun,
Venus and Jupiter). Planets that are strong in Hora of the moon are (Moon, Mars, and
Saturn), while Mercury is strong depending upon the time you were born. If the birth
took place during sunrise or sunset, then Mercury will be strong for both Horas,
otherwise it's usually neutral.
The way to find out which Hora you were born into, remember a simple concept. Look
at your ascendant or 1st house and look at the degrees of your rising sign. All
horoscope show the degree table of your ascendant and planets. All people are born
between 0-30 degrees, nothing below and nothing above. It will always be between 0-
30 degrees. Now, the Hora are divided into 2 parts as in the first 15 degree and the
second 15 degree. People born in the first 15 degree of the rising sign will be part of
one Hora while people born in the second half of the degree from 16-30 will be in the
other Hora.
How do you find out which Hora?
If you were born the odd rising signs like Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius,
Aquarius, then if you were born in the first 15 degrees of the rising sign you are ruled
by the Hora of the Sun, if you were born in the second half of the degrees then you
were born in the Hora of the Moon.
If you born with even rising signs like Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn and
Pisces then your first 15 degree will be ruled by the Moon. This means that planets
Moon, Mars and Saturn are strong for you and the original houses they rule, meaning
for all the even rising signs the 1st, 4th, 8th, 10th and 11th house will be strong since
they are originally ruled by Mars, Moon and Saturn.
Example 1
For an Aries ascendant person, if they were born in the Hora of the Moon, as in they
were born in the second half degrees, they would run into problems related to planets
which are controlled by Hora of the Sun like 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 12th house which
are ruled by Sun, Venus and Jupiter. 3rd and 6th house you can judge by seeing the
time of birth and if the native was born during sunrise or sunset. Otherwise these
houses will be neutral for the native.
Example 2
Again for an Aries ascendant person, if they were born in the first half of the degrees,
like 10 degrees Aries rising, then they were born in the Hora of the sun so they there
problem houses would be Hora of the moon like 1st, 4th, 8th, 10th and 11th house,
which are houses ruled by the planets in Moon Hora like (Moon, Mars and Saturn).
Example 3
If you are born under the Aries ascendant yet Moon Hora, then 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and
12th house becoming a source of struggle and problem, while the 1st, 4th, 8th, 10th
and 11th house are becoming the source which provide help, but, if your Jupiter who
is the original lord of 9th and 12th house is sitting in the 4th house, that means it's
now helping those 9th and 12th house and not becoming so problematic since it's
sitting the 4th house which is a good house for Hora of the moon, but if this was Hora
of the sun and Jupiter was in the 4th house then it would become problematic.
If you are born at night while in the Hora of the Moon, then this is like cherry on the
cake, as all throughout your life you'll have support of your mother, in-laws, bosses
and network. Same goes for being born in the day time while in the Hora of the sun,
you'll get support from family, ability to save money, children, help from spouse,
father and teachers.
Also, Rahu and Ketu give results according to the same concept, for Moon Hora house
1, 4, 7, 8, 10 and 11 are good, 3 and 6 depends upon Mercury. The same goes for Sun
Hora, this is why half the population will get good results of Rahu in 5th house while
other half will get bad results.

Parashara Drekkana: This is the most commonly used Drekkana in Vedic astrology. In
fact when you read about Drekkana anywhere without specific reference then it is
understood that the author is referring to this Drekkana by default. Parashara
Drekkana is used to know about the sibling of a person and analyzing all matters
related to co-borns
Jagannath Drekkana: This Drekkana reflects karma of previous life of a person.
D-60 must be analysed along with it.
Somnath Drekkana: Somnath Drekkana is used to know about the sexual drive of a
person and describes the attitude of a person towards the sexual matters and his
libido. This is generally used in Prashna Jyothisha
Privritti-traya Drekkana: This chart is used to see the drives and initiatives that the
person apply to achieve his goals. This is generally used in Prashna Jyothisha
Parashara Drekkana
Generally the first Drekkana of any sign is ruled by the owning planet, second
Drekkana by the 5th lord and the third Drekkana by the 9th lord. For example, the
first Drekkana of Aries is ruled by Mars, the second Drekkana is owned by Sun and the
third Drekkana is owned by Jupiter.
Sage Parashara named three sages as lords of three Drekkana of each sign as follows:-
For Movable Signs: Aries, Cancer, Libra & Capricorn – Narada, Aghastya and Durvaasa
For Fixed Signs: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio & Aquarius – Aghastya, Durvaasa and Narada
For Dual Signs: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius & Pisces- Durvaasa, Narada & Aghastya
Significance of Lordship
Narada Muni was known for his ‘Bhakti’ (Devotion) to the Supreme Lord. Bhakti is the
prime necessity of the soul; therefore Narada might represent the Atma, or the soul.
Aghastya Muni is associated with mind in many places in the Vedas. Durvaasa Muni was
famous for his efforts to control his senses, therefore he represents the Indriyas, or
senses. So we might say that the three Drekkanas of the signs may refer to the soul,
the mind and the senses.
Parashara states that the Drekkana Chart should be used to analyze relationship with
siblings, or co-borns. We might conclude that the planets in the Drekkanas ruled by
Narada would denote the spiritual/karmic relations to the native's brothers. Those in
the Drekkanas ruled by Aghastya would signify the mental/psychological effects from
brothers, and those in the Drekkanas ruled by Durvaasa would refer to the
sensual/physical comfort or discomfort caused by the brothers and sisters.
Other Interpretation
Each Drekkana contains three Navamsha of 3°20’ each. First Navamsha of each
Drekkana is moveable sign and represents minerals (Dhatu), Second Navamsha of each
Drekkana is of fixed sign and represents vegetable world (Moola) and Third (3rd)
Navamsha of each Drekkana is of Dual sign represented by Jeeva (living being). This
order is reversed in the case of even signs.
Each Drekkana contains four Dwadasamsha of 2°30’ each. 1st Dwadasamsha of each
Drekkana is always is of the same sign as that of Drekkana itself. Other Dwadasamsha
follow the sign in consecutive order. For example, Drekkana of Leo Rashi will
commence from Leo Dwadasamsha and remaining three Dwadasamsha will be of
Virgo, Libra and Scorpio signs respectively. Each Dwadasamsha is presided by a deity.
1st Dwadasamsha of every Drekkana is presided by Ganesha
2nd Dwadasamsha by Ashwini Kumars
3rd Dwadasamsha by Yama
Like ascendant, obtain 22nd Drekkanas of other planets specially Moon and
Sun. Transit of that planet into respective 22nd Drekkana always mar the
significance of planet transited.
Avoid starting any new task when your luminaries are transiting their 22nd
Drekkana or/and Kharesh moving over Sun or Moon.
Ill effects
1. Whenever lord of Lagna transits the 22nd Drekkana, loss, bodily discomfort, grief
and quarrel results. 2. In a similar fashion transit of lord of 22nd Drekkana in
ascendant produces trouble regarding significance of 1st house.
3. Like ascendant, obtain 22nd Drekkanas of other planets specially Moon and Sun.
Transit of that planet into respective 22nd Drekkana always mar the significance of
planet transited.
4. Avoid starting any new task when your luminaries are transiting their 22ndDrekkana
or/and Kharesh moving over Sun or Moon.
6. The placement of Kharesh from Lagna in the Drekkana chart shows inner turmoil,
struggle related to disease, debt or enemies. –
7. The nature of the 22nd Drekkana indicates the source/ manner of death. –
8. In general condition when Longevity has not reached optimum it is concerned with
bodily discomfort, health matters, and threat to longevity of the native.
9. Dasha/Bhukti of lord of 22nd Drekkana generally afflicts native’s health and yield
mental agony, when devoid of benefic aspects.
10. If the concerned planet is also a natural malefic and posited in malefic Rashi then
intensity of evil would definitely be higher than expected.
General points
If the Lagna Drekkana is Pasha Drekkana, then the native may experience
bondage/ incarceration.
If the birth is in Chatushpada Drekkana (quadruped Drekkana) or if
the 7th lord is in the Chatushpada Drekkana, then the sexual activity of
the native will resemble that of a quadruped.

Hora Shastra, Sarvartha Chintamani and Saravali.

The position of Moon in specific Drekkana denotes the nature, thinking and behavior
of native.
Moon in Ayudha Drekkana makes the native violent, angry, intolerant and
victorious over enemies.
Moon in female Drekkana makes the native gentle, emotional, lover of
art/culture.
Moon in serpent Drekkana makes the person full of anger, revengeful and
deceitful.
Moon in Chatuspada Drekkana inculcates animal instinct and non-follower of
social and moral ethics.
Moon in Pakshi Drekkana makes the nature fickle minded, wondering from one
place to another and instability in profession.

Effects of Drekkana
Apart from analyzing happiness from younger co-born and initiative, D-3 charts are
put to number of uses which are discussed as under:-
Lagna - Time when article has been stolen or lost, direction in which taken,
place from where it is lost, direction in which taken and locality in which it is
concealed.

5. Study of D-3 Chart helps us to analyze general characteristics of native.
Younger co-born are examined from 3rd house from ascendant and significator is
Mars. In case of sister Venus also acts as significator. The first younger co-born is
examined from 3rd house, next from 5th house (i.e. 3rd from 3rd) and so on.
The following principles are helpful in examining happiness from younger co-born:
Saturn and Mercury are female planets, but generally Saturn represents female
and Mercury represents male co-born. If lord is neither in exaltation or
debilitation sign nor conjoined with any planet, then sex of co-born is
determined from nature of sign occupied in D-3 chart.

Greek astrologers paid great attention to the Decante system of delineation. Western
astrologers used Decante technically identical to Jagannath Drekkana, in order to
assess native’s character. Among Sun, Moon and Ascendant if all three or two fall into
Decante of malefic planets then the native would be evil minded, sinner and
wrathful. If trend is mixed then native will be lazy, back biter and ill-behaved. But if
all three (among Sun, Moon and Ascendant) rises into benefic Decante (and their lord
of Decante are also powerful) then native would be blessed, intelligent, soft spoken
and successful.
The sign is divided into 4 parts of 7˚20’ each. The first division falls in the same sign;
the second in the 4th sign; the third in the 7th sign and the fourth in the 10th sign
from it. This division shows fortune, landed property, assets, liabilities, influence of
the mother, domestic life, mental peace, landed property and conveyance.
The Lords of the four Kendra from a Rashi are the rulers of respective Chaturamsha of
a Rashi commencing from Mesha.
Sanaka: a planet in this domain gives full enthusiasm to pursue the desired

Sananda: a person accepts happiness and is in a state of happiness.
Kumara: Risk and courage to retain happiness despite change of environment.
Sanatana: One who regains happiness despite losing it.
Fourth house, among other things, signifies property and conveyances, the karaka
being Mars and Venus respectively. In analyzing this chart see the Lagna, Lagna lord,
4th lord (in D1) and karakas Mars and Venus together with 4th house from Mars and
Venus respectively in D4. The possibility of possessing immovable property, vehicles
and also the happiness, troubles or litigations connected with these significations can
be seen from this divisional chart.
Saptamsha
If the lord of the 5th in the Rashi chart is placed with Mercury, Venus or Saturn,
there is problem is procreation as these three planets tend to obstruct the
Naisargika Putra karaka Jupiter.
In Female Horoscope, Moon and in Male horoscope, Sun and Jupiter becomes
the key controller progeny in the Saptamsha and thus the procreation. If they
are badly placed, being afflicted, or placed in the Maraka Sthana in the
Saptamsha, this can show problem or denial of progeny
Strong influences of the fiery element (Mars, Sun) on the fifth house. This can
happen due to conjunction, aspect of Parivartana of the 5th house / lord. This
can be overcome by increasing the dominance of Jala Tatwa on the 5th Lord.
Jaimini Says Sun, Rahu and Jupiter in the 9th shall indicate many Sons, which is
also mentioned by Parashara who indicates that the Sun, Rahu or Jupiter will
give illustrious son.
The Moon in the 9th house gives one Son
The ninth in odd sign indicates many children and Vice versa.
Mercury, Saturn and / or Venus in the trines to the Saptamsha Lagna tend to
deny children. Mercury and Saturn are eunuch planets and in Saptamsha Lagna
deny fertility.
Venus, on the other hand causes association with too many thereby depleting
the chances for progeny. However If both planets giving children (Sun, Rahu,
Jupiter and Moon) and those denying children (Mercury, Saturn and
Venus) are present, a child will be born after some delay.
For female charts, the ninth should be considered and for
male charts the fifth for
Mars’s and Saturn’s influence on the trine to the Saptamsha Lagna
show that the native will have Adopted Child or Dattuputra.
The sex of the child is seen from the lord of the sign ruling the house of pregnancy.
If the lord is exalted or conjoin male planets (Sun, Rahu, Jup, Mars), the issue
is male.
If the lord is debilitated or conjoins female planets (Moon, Ketu, Venus), the
issue is female.
Saturn and Mercury are eunuch planets, but they have found to indicate female
and male children respectively.
If the lord of the sign is neither exalted/ debilitated, not conjoins any other
planets, the sex of the child is seen from the nature of the sign occupied by it.
All Odd signs excepting the Aquarius and Gemini are male birth signs while all
the even signs, expecting Cancer and Pisces are Female birth signs.
Fortune of Children
Details regarding the fortunes of individual children can be predicted by treating each
of the signs occupied by the lord of the pregnancy as the Lagna. For example, the sign
occupied by the seventh lord should be treated as the Lagna of the child from the
second pregnancy.
If the lord of the child has good relationship (Sambandha) with the lord of the
Saptamsha Lagna, there will be amicable relationship between the parent and the
child. However, the placement of the lord of the child from the Saptamsha Lagna will
show, whether the child will be helping his/her parent in their work. Thus If the lord
of any child is placed in the 7th from the Saptamsha Lagna, the child will oppose the
parent. Similarly, if the lord of the child is placed in a Kendra from the Saptamsha
Lagna, then the parent and the child will become Paraspara Yogakaraka (Mutual Co-
workers).
We know that benefics placed in the 3rd and 6th from the AL in the Rashi chart, is a
bane for materialistic pursuits, showing defeats and losses, whereas a boon for
spiritual pursuits. The same principle can be applied in the Saptamsha where, if the
lord of the child, being a benefic is placed in the 3rd or 6th from the Saptamsha Lagna
or its lord, the child shall be responsible for the defeat of parents or their loss of
wealth.
If the lord of the child is placed in the 12th from the lord of Saptamsha Lagna, the
child will reside in a foreign land away from the parents. 12th is the house which
shows rejection of the matters ruled by the planet placed in the 12th from the Lagna.
Thus is the lord of the child is placed in the12th, then this will show that the child
will be having some kind of indifferent relationship from the parent and being a house
which shows long journey, the child will be staying at a very long distance.
Similarly the Marriages of the children can be seen from the Upapada from the Lord of
the children. For illustration, if the lord of the child is placed in Aries with Jupiter,
the Upapada will be placed in Taurus, taking Pisces as the 12th from the Lagna of child
in Aries.
The Dasha planet should have benefic Argala on the “Saptamsha Lagna lord” or
obstruct malefic Argala on the same. If the Dasha planet has Rashi Drsti on the
Saptamsha Lagna lord, then also there will be birth of a child.
The Antardasha planet should associate with the lord of the child or placed in trine,
7th or 12th from it. This is also possible, if there is a strong Argala of the Antardasha
planet on the dasha lord of the child. The planet having Argala on the lord of the
child can also show the Antardasha of birth of the child.
The Pratyantar dasha planet is normally of a planet in trines to the Saptamsha Lagna
who invariably contributes the Lagna of the child. This can be confirmed from the

Navamsha
The spiritual essence of a horoscope lies in its Navamsha chart. The sub-divisions of a
planetary sign (the sign inhabited by a given planet) have a direct collocation with
various phases of his life which in turn has a direct bearing on his spiritual character.
Certain underlying principles guide the interpretation of Navamsha. The nine fold
divisions are guided by different lords. The lords of first, fourth and seventh
Navamsha are of divine significance. The lords of second, fifth and eighth denote
spiritual reputation and kindness; whereas the lords of third, sixth and ninth are
demonic in significance.
One needs to have a look at the placement of sun and its friendly planets to find out
to what extent the efforts of one's good will and action may bear fruits. On the other
hand, the rising ascendant or Lagna, its lord and the third house have direct
connection with the elements of patience and endurance. Similarly, the rising lord,
the seventh house and its lord, Venus and its friendly bodies have a direct bearing on
ones better half. The third house and is lords are associated with overseas settlement
and disease. The combined features of the third, seventh, ninth and the twelfth
house together with the respective placement of their lords signify overseas travel.
Likewise the 'Lagna' its lord, the sixth lord and Ketu are linked with diseases whereas
'Rahu' and its transit have a link with the curability of diseases. The planet of the
ascending sign and its lord should not ideally occupy the sixth, eighth and twelfth
places in a Navamsha. The given locations make for their afflictions leading to
anxieties and trouble during their tenure ship.
Navamsha predictions
Planets weakly positioned in natal chart but heightened in Navamsha are supposed to
produce favorable results. The reverse is also true. Planets or aspects denoted by
those planets should be equal in strength in both the natal and Navamsha chart so as
to produce the desired result. Planets strengthened in Navamsha chart are supposed
to be thrice more powerful than that in natal chart. A planet occupying the same
place in birth as well as that of the Navamsha chart is supposed to be very powerful.
Thus prediction should always be made in context of the Navamsha, birth chart and
that showing the transitory phases of various planets. The chart is particularly helpful
in spheres of marriage, mental matching with one's spouse. It also helps to predict the
time of marriage and how delays can be overcome.
Effects of Navamsha
Analysis of a given Navamsha chart testifies to the general prospects and dispositions
of one's life. The ascendant sign and its respective lord bare testimony to the native's
colour shape, general nature and the overall mental makeup. Moon's Navamsha and
that of its ascendant lord usually determine a native's physical look. Transitory effects
of moon in the context of one's birth chart and that of his Navamsha has profound
bearing on his nature. The entire set of Navamsha has its prolific bearing on
individual's physical features and that of his innate disposition. Thus houses of a birth
chart should be correlated to that of his Navamsha. Conjunction or opposition of
planets should be given due priority for predicting results.
Pushkara Navamsha
Push means to nourish and Kara means who does or what causes. Pushkara is a special
energy that nourishes. Navamsha is the most important Varga. Planet positions in
their Navamsha finally decide whether they are strong or weak in the chart. Do they
feel supported or not. Therefore Pushkara Navamshas become very important. They
are specific areas in charts that nourish which give planets the capacity to heal and
regenerate themselves. This special Navamsha allow the personality to flourish.
Regardless of the situation of the planet, its qualities become replenished. It is always
the Navamsha ruled by the same signs within the same elements that become
Pushkara.
While there are two Pushkara in each sign, they do not fall in Aries, Gemini, Leo,
Scorpio, Capricorn, and Aquarius Navamshas. These Navamshas can be taken as points
of personal development, where individual learns from their own mistakes. Aries,
Gemini, Leo and Aquarius are male signs and their Navamsha may use up all the
energy available to them not try to regenerate the planetary qualities. Scorpio and
Capricorn are female signs but these are complex areas within signs. Scorpio creates
sudden transformation and Capricorn makes planet feel much burdened, even if they
are well placed. As Capricorn makes us face up to our karmic responsibilities and
therefore we are not able to nurture the soul.
Ketu Nakshatras (Ashwini, Magha, and Mula) do not have any Pushkara Navamsha.

Ketu Nakshatra is beginning stages for the development for the soul. These stages can
be very intense and therefore personal effort and the struggle of the soul to live a
material life is there. In Ketu Nakshatras, the soul is taking a new step in its
development, so it uses up some of its accumulated nourishment. So while they are
aspiring for Moksha, their very action depletes their collected good karma and planets
find it difficult to find nourishment in these circumstances. That does not make it
wrong or bring weakness but Pushkara cannot thrive. The soul cannot change the
situation and in its pursuit for the next level of development, they have to use up
some of their equity. It is like taking a loan for present development, which will bring
future rewards. But the present will make them feel burdened.
The Pushkara Navamshas throw up some interesting points. The rulerships of the
Navamshas are by benefic planets. Jupiter and Venus rules nine Pushkara each, one in
fire, earth and air elements, whereas Moon and Mercury rule one each in Water
elements. Water signs are known as Moksha houses as well. Moksha houses are about
self-realisation and the rulership of Moon and Mercury- the two planets of
the mind should that we have to nourish our mind before we can aspire to realise
ourselves. Another way of looking at it is that a nourished and quiet mind helps us to
go towards self-realization.
The planets that are not placed in Pushkara need to be energized, as they do not have
the capacity to nourish themselves.
64th Navamsha
For Chara Rashi (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) – the first Navamsha will be of the
same sign and then the next sign. So the first Navamsha in Aries will be Aries, Second
Navamsha will be that of Taurus!! For Sthira Rashi (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) –
the first Navamsha will be that of the 9th sign. For example the first Navamsha in
Taurus will be Capricorn and the second Navamsha will be that of Aquarius. For
Dwiswabhava Rashi (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) – the first Navamsha will
be that of 5th sign. For example the first Navamsha in Gemini will be of Libra, the
second Navamsha will be that of Scorpio. The above rules are elementary and a
student of Astrology is supposed to know them by heart.
64th Navamsha is nothing but the 210th degree with respect to any point under
consideration. In other words it would be the same Navamsha in the 8th house with
respect to the point under consideration. Let us see a small example. Let us assume
the Lagna is at 3° Aries. This means the Lagna is in the first Navamsha. Now let us
find out the 64th Navamsha. It is the same point in the 8th house which is nothing but
Scorpio 3°. This 3° Scorpio position gives a Navamsha in Cancer. In short 64th
Navamsha is the same point in the 8th house in the Rashi chart and is placed in the
4th house from the point/planet under consideration in the Navamsha chart. This is
because 64 divided by 12 leaves a balance/remainder of 4.
This 64th Navamsha is also called as Khara Navamsha. This is reckoned with reference
to Lagna/Moon/Sun. It is common understanding that whenever transit conjunction of
major planets takes place in the 64th Navamsha in a nativity (Lagna/Moon/Sun) some
major event takes place.
As per stanza 61 of Chapter IX in Prashna Marga “if the lord of Chandra Navamsha is
inimical, neutral or friendly to the lord of the 64th Navamsha there from, the
longevity of the person will be short, medium or full. The Sun and lord of Lagna
should be similarly reckoned.
As per Jataka Parijata whenever the lord of 64th Navamsha from the ascendant
Navamsha occupies a Dusthana(6/8/12) and is in conjunction with Saturn the native
will die by swallowing poison and if it is conjoined with Rahu or Ketu his death will be
by way of hanging
Note: The 22nd Drekkana from that of the Drekkana occupied by the Lagna is called
as Khara Drekkana. It goes without saying that it is the same point in the 8 th house in
the Rashi chart. As both these Kharas are used in timing death they are considered as
malefics.

Navamsha Lagna Lord in Dusthana, spoilt by malefics like Saturn, Mars, Sun,

Navamsha Lagna Lord in 7th House, 7th Lord in 12th House – marriage in 23rd
or 26th years of age.
8th House of Rashi chart is 7th House of Navamsha, Venus in Navamsha Lagna,
marriage in 25th or 33rd years of age.
If Venus in seventh House or the Seventh Lord or the Lagna Lord of Navamsha is
all afflicted then one can say that it amounts to no marriage. It would rather
be better if such a person’s does not marry.
Nature of Spouse
The native will get beautiful, cultured, intelligent wife and will be prosperous
and wealthy in his life if Navamsha Lagna Lord is
Exalted, in Moola Trikona or in Own house.

D-9 Deities
Dev (Devata),
Nar (Human being),
Rakshasa (Demon).
They can be translated as Sat, Raj, and Tam Gunas respectively. Including Lagna and
planets, there are 10 entities, and if majority of them are Rakshasa, the native will
be Tamo Gunee and demonic in nature. But this is a crude method. Even if there is
only one Rakshasa in a native's chart, and if that planet is malefic in D-1 and D-9 and
D-60, or highly malefic in only D-1 or D-9, that planet will cause grave demonic acts
depending on the trait of that planet in chart. Those demonic acts will occur when
majority of planets in Gochara are under Rakshasa.
Dashamsha
According to Parashara (BPHS 7), the D-10 or Dasamsha is used for judging
`Mahatphalam'. The word `Mahatphalam’ can loosely be translated as `Great results'
or `Great fruits'. Now that does not directly or necessarily mean just career or
profession. The Dasamsha is used (along with the Rashi or natal chart) to predict
about matters related to career, status, achievements, one's role in the society, etc.
This is also what the 10th house or mid-heaven signifies. Since the Dasamsha shares
the same symbolism as the 10th house largely, let's briefly look into what the 10th
house signifies.
The 10th house (which roughly corresponds with the mid-heaven) is the point of
maximum externalization of the self. It represents one's social role and position, and
life direction too. Traditionally these are linked to one's career as well. Quite often it
is true; true to the extent that one defines oneself by what one does. A very
important key word for the tenth house is ‘Karma’. Simply put Karma is “what an
individual needs to do with his/her life in order to evolve”. But spiritual evolution,
rather the ascent back to the original state, the cosmic roots, is also linked to
liquidation of karma. Thus the tenth house affords us a chance to liquidate karma
through one's career or whatever one most naturally is suited to do. The 4/10th is
very enigmatic and probably one of the least understood in a way.
Strength of a D-10 chart generally with respect to Career is assessed using following
parameters.
The following factors indicate a good career, public life, recognition of one's work
etc:
Is Mars a malefic in this context, with respect to career? Definitely not. Remember
that the so called malefics can give strength, resilience, perseverance and the
capacity to work hard, like an Asura. In fact on the overall it is the malefics that give
more scope for free-will, while the benefics tell more about your previous merits
(Purva Punya). Remember malefics in 3, 6, 10, and 11? They are most well placed in
the Upachaya houses.
The factors that indicate a good career life on the overall are:
In other words, if a planet is well placed in both D-1 and D-10, it indicates rise in
career.
What if a planet is well placed in one chart, but badly placed in the other? The
modifications are as follows:
A word on the relationship between the Rashi and Amsha charts becomes necessary
here. Rashi should be given more importance than Amsha generally in any context.
Normally what is not promised by the Rashi chart cannot be given by an Amsha chart.
The Amsha chart has to support the Rashi chart for full fructification or the full
potential of the Rashi chart to be realized. And while the Rashi indicates `heaps' of
things, the Amsha indicates specific aspects of life only.
D-10 Trik lords (6, 8, and 12) connected to D-1 Lagna or 10th house: obstacles
or difficulties with respect to career.
Indicators of a good career or rise in career in the Dasamsha:
Strong 10th House in D-10: Status, recognition and great achievements
Planets in the 1st or 1st lord in D-10

With the above principles in mind, let us see how one can see the rise and fall in
career life through both the dasha and transits using the Rashi and Dasamsha charts.
Remember that all results indicated by a planet in the Rashi and Amsha chart come to
fructification in their Dasha, Antardasha and sensitizing transits.
Planets in Kendras: Being Vishnu Sthana, planets in Kendras are auspicious. The
angles as explained in the beginning itself are very important.
Even malefics in Kendras are not bad for career. While this is obvious with the
10th house, it is indirectly obvious with the 7th (being 10th from 10th).
D-10 Deities
The ten Dashamsha Deities are the lords of the ten directions beginning with the East.
In an even Rashi these lords are taken in the reverse.
1st of Odd Rashi 10th of Even Rashi: Indra – East Direction. Lord -Sun
This Dashamsha gives the power to do and thus overcome any obstacle to success.
2nd of Odd Rashi 9th of Even Rashi: Agni – Southeast Direction. Lord - Venus.
This Dashamsha gives the ability for connectivity and support, both which will provide
success.
3rd of Odd Rashi 8th of Even Rashi: Yama – South Direction. Lord -Mars.
This Dashamsha gives the self-discipline that gives success.
4th of Odd Rashi 7th of Even Rashi: Rakshasa – Southwest Direction. Lord- Rahu.
This Dashamsha gives the power to ruthlessly destroy and overcome obstacles to
success.
5th of Odd Rashi 6th of Even Rashi: Varuna – West Direction. Lord Saturn.
This Dashamsha gives the power for the consciousness to hold onto its vision until the
envisioned goal is acquired. It gives ability of sustained effort for success.
6th of Odd Rashi 5th of Even Rashi: Maruta – North-west Direction. Lord- Moon
This Dashamsha gives the capacity to make the changes required for continued
success. It gives flexibility and adaptability for success.
7th of Odd Rashi 4th of Even Rashi: Kubera – North Direction. Lord- Mercury
This Dashamsha gives the capacity to use its wealth and success for creating greater
success and the practical ability to enjoy wealth.
8th of Odd Rashi 3rd of Even Rashi: Isana – Northeast Direction. Lord- Jupiter
This Dashamsha gives the ability to rule over things and thus promotes their continual
success.
9th of Odd Rashi 2nd of Even Rashi: Padmaja – Zenith. Roughly sources relate this
direction to Ketu. This Dashamsha gives the creative ability with which to create
great things.
10th of Odd Rashi 1st of Even Rashi: Ananta – Nadir. Some sources relate this direction
to the Lagna.
This Dashamsha gives the ability to give success working with what one already has
available to them and to find fulfilling success in what has already been
accomplished.
Dwadasamsha – D12
This chart (D -12) is generally seen for understanding the benefits arising out of
parents. Respective longevity of both the parents can be understood from this chart.
This chart is also said to reveal the Purva Janma Punya of the native. Here, (as in all
divisional charts) the Avastha of the natural Karaka has to be seen. Here, the Sun
represents the father and the Moon represents the mother. Here, the influence on the
ninth and the tenth house has to be understood. The Lord of the 88th Dwadasamsha is
important in longevity analysis. This chart also is said to reveal whether a person
inherits a disease from his parents.

144 portions is assigned a description.
"The name of the first Dwadasamsha of a particular sign is the name of the sign
itself.
Those of Vrishabha are Vrishabha, Mithuna, Kataka, etc, ending with Mesha.
Those of Mithuna are Mithuna, Kataka, Simha, etc, ending with Vrishabha and
so on."

of the present lifetime.
The 9th portion (20.00 - 22.30 of each Bhava) will always be beneficial except
for the 9th portions of Dusthanamsha.
For example, the 9th Rashi of the 3rd Bhava brings jewels (9) for the ears (3)
The best of these is naturally the 9th Amsha of the 9th Bhava which gives yogic
practices such as Ashta Siddhi, like Anima, Mahima, etc. and makes one a
Super Being"

This is also called as ‘Suryamsha’ Here each sign is divided into 2°30´sections. Any
division starts at D-1 Lagna and covers all the 12 signs.

body and enjoyment with many women. When Sun and Moon are in the Trimsamsha of
Mars, etc., the person will be warlike and slothful, cruel and killing, virtuous and
wealthy, happy and learned, handsome and popular respectively

could take place’; or in other words at BT if the Navamsha-Dwadasamsha of Lagna
conjunct with the Longitude of Moon, the BT should be treated as correct.
In short this is also a method originated based on the words of sages, as given in Rishi
Horas. As per this method, if we multiply the Lagna longitude at BT with 108, it
should conjunct with the Longitude of Moon at BT
Note that this is popular opinion regarding the same, and is a method well-supported
by traditional commentaries and the astrological tradition (Guru-Sishya paramparas).
Thus this method derives its energy, power and authority from Rishi Horas, traditional
commentaries, the paramparas and logic. I think there is no need to emphasis the
importance of Navamsha -Dwadasamsha as indicated by the number 108. It is the
number of Navamshas present in the zodiac circle; 108 times Moon’s diameter is the
distance from Moon to Earth; 108 times Earth’s diameter is the distance from Earth to
Sun; 108 times Earth diameter is the diameter of Sun; 108 divisions of zodiac
became the foundation for the creation of the Rashichakra (Zodiac/Ecliptic circle)
itself taking the mid-point of Rohini (the Nakshatra of Brahma, the creator; 46°40′
and the fiducial point at 240 ° in Moola Star (The root; the center of Milky way galaxy
is 240°) as the base for sign and Nakshatra divisions. This number 108 is inherent in,
and is very important, in the rhythm of the solar system; and the study of the time
and space divisions based on the same, as per ancient Indian astrology
If we accept that the birth could take place in the trine Nakshatra as well, then-
