SWOT

I career I am pursuing is a management position, after graduation I am going to be

managing the golf course in my hometown. I have loved the game of golf since I was little and

now, I get to manage one in town that I grew up in. It is a very nice 18-hole course with a

beautiful layout. For my position I will be managing the clubhouse and also the grounds part of

the course.

The first strength I have is, that I know the game of golf and how it is played. This will

help me connect with the golfers if they have questions or problems. It will allow me to see

what needs to be changes need to be made. The second strength I have is that I golfed and

worked at the course for a while now, so all members be able to communicate effectively with

me. My next strength is that I stay organized and know when things are happening. This will

help me get the course ready for tournaments and when everything needs to be in the best

condition for the golfers. Another strength that will help me is that my business degree this will

help me work with all the financials that take place at the course. This can range from ordering

seed for the grass to ordering drinks and snacks for the golfers to putting in memberships and

getting the money from guest golfers. Another strength I will have is that I know pretty much
everyone in town so if I need something in a certain aspect of the course I will be able to

connect with them. For example, if I am short on booze, I can run to one of the liquor stores

and get more alcohol to help the course keep making money.

I have really thought about weaknesses until now, but one of them is that I’m

inexperienced and will oversee people older than me. With this I will have to adapt quickly.

Another weakness of mine will be that I will do what other people want me to do even though

it might not be the best idea just to keep them happy. So, I will need to change that to do the

things that are best for the course. My next weakness is that I tend to avoid people I am not

familiar with, this will have to change because we get golfers from all over so I will have to

communicate with them.

My opportunities are endless with this position, it will allow me to gain knowledge of

what it takes to be a manager for the future if I ever pursue a new career. It will also allow me

to the financial part of a business and that is why I got into the business field because I want to

work with the money and put it into the right things to make things better. Another opportunity

is that it will allow for me to be outside a bit, I am not a fan of the indoors when it is nice out.

The threats for me are if the course looks for a manager for the grounds. Since I am

managing both the clubhouse and the grounds, I am making more money. Another threat

would be members not renewing their memberships. With that the course would lose money

and I would make less. The last threat I think I would have is golfers going to the other

surrounding course and not coming to mine. This would cause a decrease in revenue.
