Motivation:
SETTING THE MOOD
The students will guess what the pictures or illustrations are all about and they will try to
fulfill the missing letters to complete a word/s.

You comment on the acting, the plot, soundtrack and others. Your report might be negative
or positive. You are expressing a judgement about the quality of the movie objectively. When you
read too good to be true information, you need to analyze, interpret and evaluate that is
CRITICAL READING.
When we read critically, we use our critical thinking skills to question both the text
and our own reading of it.
Different disciplines may have distinctive modes of critical reading (scientific,
philosophical, literary, etc.)
You need to differentiate the facts from opinion, and look at arguments
given for and against the claims.
Basically, its purpose is to assess the strength of the evidence and the
arguments.

How to do Critical Reading?
The following are some suggested ways to help you become a critical reader:
NOTE!
Critical reading is not necessarily mean being critical when you read, it simply means
engaging in what you read by asking yourself questions, such as:
To read critically is to exercise your judgement about what you are reading. That is not
taking anything you read at face value. We need to be critical in reading or simply do critical
reading for the purpose of assessing the strength of arguments and evidence in order to
differentiate factual from opinionated statements. In this way, we’ll be able to fully
understand what we are reading and be able to gather the information we need.

The students will analyze the given song lyrics as texts to develop critical reading.

The teacher and the students will discuss and analyze the lyrics and meaning of the song through
the following questions: (Answering critical questions through in-depth reading of the song lyrics)
d. APPLICATION
Using critical reading, read the given lyrics of the song and answer the questions based on your
understanding. Elucidate the meaning of the song and relate it to real-life experiences.
1. What does the chorus want to advice for you as a student who has dreams in life?
2. As a SHS student, what do you think awaits you if you work hard and give your best
in your studies?
3. What will you do when your dream seems impossible to achieve?
4. In your own words, restate the message of the song.
5. How did the song change your views about dreams in life?
