INTERVIEW

Interview is an important selection technique where there is


two-way exchange of information either on one-to-one basis
or by an interview panel. The interview gets important
information from the candidates and can also judge whether
or not they can fit into the College/Institute.
Features of Interview ……

It is face-to-face interaction between interviewer and the interviewee

It has a definite purpose known to both the parties

It is generally based on pre-structured questions to be asked in a defined


manner
Types of Interviews:

Interviews can be conducted


• one-on-one
• in a panel
• or as a group

Interviews can be
• informal or formal
• relaxed or stressful
• directed or undirected

Before preparing for an interview, the interviewee should find


out how the interview will be conducted.
Things you should DO for an Interview
• Dress appropriately.
• Be punctual
• Express yourself and your views clearly
• Bring a copy of all relevant documents, so you can refer to them if
necessary
• Listen carefully to the questions and answer clearly and thoughtfully
• Make eye-contact.
• Make sure you fully understand the question
• If you are being interviewed by a panel, ensure that you direct your
answer to the person who asked the question, while still including the
other interviewers by making brief eye contact.
• Ask questions
• Be Confident
• Show enthusiasm for the college/institute
• Make sure that you always present your skills in a positive light
Things you should NOT DO for an Interview

• Don't dress too casually or look untidy.


• Don't make derogatory remarks your past school
• Don't fidget or twitch, try to control other nervous mannerisms
• Conversely, don't sit there like a statue
• Don't interrupt the interviewer before they have finished asking you a
question
• Don't Lie
• Don't worry if you answer one question badly. Treat each question
individually
• Don't answer questions with a simple "yes" or "no
• Don't wear too much perfume or aftershave.
• Don't smoke even if invited to do so.
