ALUMINUM LOUVER

Model ZAL

Introduction

A louver is a ventilation product that allows air to pass through it while

keeping out unwanted elements such as water, dirt, and debris. A number of
fixed blades mounted in a frame can provide this functionality. The basic
considerations for selecting louvers are Free Area, and Resistance to
Airflow (Pressure Loss)..

Free Area

Free area is derived by taking the total open area of a louver (after
subtracting all obstructions - blades and frame) and dividing by the overall
wall opening.

Models

Models ZAL are available in two designs : ZAL-S for perforations

up to 1000X1000 mm. and ZAL-L in larger sizes up to 2000X2000
mm. as single units.

Construction

· Frames and blades : from high quality extruded aluminum

profiles or galvanized steel both available upon request

· Galvanized steel wire mesh in the back side ( option )

· Trim mitered corners, rivet fasten through the frame into
louver core

Finishes: Electrostatic powder coated in standard RAL colors

Performance

Knowing the flow rate and the recommended velocity the free area
can be determined as

A = Q/v , entering the table at the nearest smaller area the W & H
of the louver may be chosen

Or ,

Knowing the louver size WxH , the free area A is known from the
table , the velocity will be calculated as

V = Q/A

For the face velocity A the pressure drop across the louver is
plotted in chart 1

Free Area Velocity (ft/min)

Example 1
Given air flow rate of 1500 cfm select a louver size

Dividing flow rate by free area velocity (let say 600 fpm )

Free area = 2.5 ft2 , from the table above , 34”X 22” will be the least louver satisfy the
desired free velocity

Note : other selections are also available

Determine free velocity 1500 /2.51 = 597 fpm

Check for pressure drop across the louver at 597 fpm from chart 1 = 0.06 Wg “

Example 2
Knowing louver size as 24”X28” determine the maximum flow rate

From table 1 free area = 2.28 feet2

For velocity 800 fpm the flow rate = 2.28X 800 = 1824 cfm

Check for pressure drop across the louver at 800 fpm from chart 1 = 0.14 Wg “
