OBJECTIVES

Pharmacy assistants should be able to:

 Interact with patients effectively about their health;


 Carry out individual patient assessment using algorithms; and

 Assist patients in choosing the right pharmaceutical products to address minor ailments

INTRODUCTION

The role of the community pharmacy in primary health care has not been fully appreciated nor the
pharmacist in charge.

In the process of improving both the image and value of the pharmacist and the pharmacy as a health
care facility, the pharmacy assistants also need to be empowered to assume an important health care
role --- that of an assistant to the pharmacist in delivering quality service in self-care management,
particularly that of self-medication.
