1．Subject
Information on release of the new software for Class A AIS (JHS-182)

2．Objective Equipment
- NTE-183 which will replace the JHS-182 requiring replacement.
NOTE: other than JG ships

- NTE-183 which is already installed as JHS-182 transponder whose software version is

3.00 or 3.01

NOTE: It is unnecessary for ships in which the procedure in the service news
(FSN200001) has been carried out.

3．Outlines
3.1 Changed software
Fixed the following defects in the software of AIS TRANSPONDER (NTE-183).
- "UTC CLOCK : LOST" is displayed in the SENSOR STATUS screen.
- Self-diagnosis results in "INT GPS : NG SAT.RCV".

3.2 Countermeasures
Please update to the new software when visiting a vessel.
If updating the software, please download the new one from Marine Service Dept website.
Make sure to initialize the AIS transponder after updating the software.

There is no revision of the instruction manual and service manual for this software.

Software update procedures for JHS-182 on board

1. Fill out the attached JHS-182 setting table.
(Ship static information, Voyage related information, etc.)

1.1 Turn the AIS controller on in the maintenance mode.

 Press and hold the MENU key and the PWR key for about 6 seconds until
characters appear on the AIS controller display.
 Once in the maintenance mode, press MENU key to display menu item 1 to 7
as [MAIN MENU].
 Select [5.MAINTENANCE] In the Main Menu. Place the cursor over
"6.SOFTWARE VERSION", and press and hold PWR key and Press the jog dial
to check the current software version. Check whether the current software
version is the target for update.

NOTE: NTE-183-2 is written in the software for JHS-183 at the time of shipment.
So be sure to update it to the software for JHS182 when replacing.

1.2 Write down the current setting of each item to the attached JHS-182 setting table.

1.3 Make sure that an external GPS is connected.

2. Update the NTE-183 Transponder software

Update the software of NTE-183 in accordance with Appndix2 “Software update
procedures for "NTE-183 for JHS-182 MAINTENANCE AIS TRANSPONDER"
(JD20218A)”.

3. Check and re-set AIS controller referring to the JHS-182 setting table.
3.1 Turn the AIS controller on with maintenance mode.
3.2 Select the following, initialize all transponder data.
“7.INITIAL SETTING” -> “3.AIS INITIALIZE” ->“1.TRANSPONDER ALL CLEAR” -> [ENT]
3.3 Check and compare the current setting of each item with the JHS-182 setting
table created in procedure 1, and re-set the device to fit the table as necessary.
3.4 Once the checking and the re-setting is complete, press OFF key, enter the
password and turn the AIS controller off.

4. Check the operation

4.1 Turn the AIS controller on with normal mode. Check the operation is normal
without the displaying of any error messages such as “MMSI MISMATCH”.
Also, about one minute after the start, select [5.MAINTENANCE] and check
that "UTC CLOCK: IN USE" is displayed on the SENSOR STATUS screen .

Note: If "UTC CLOCK: IN USE" does not appear, check that the external GPS is
normal. Also, recheck procedure 3.

4.2 Write down the checked result to the attached ‘AIS JHS-182 Maintenance
record’.

5. Fill in and return of the ‘AIS JHS-182 Maintenance record’

Software update procedures for "NTE-183 for JHS-182 MAINTENANCE AIS TRANSPONDER"
（For Update Tool For AIS TRANSPONDER）

1. Preparing
1.1. Prepare the followings:
- Personal computer (OS: Windows7/10, Hard disk free space: 10MBytes or more,
COM (RS-232C) port: built-in port or USB-COM adapter etc.)
- D-SUB 9-pin straight cable (9-pin male connector and 9-pin female connector)
- File (UpdTool.exe) for re-installation
- Update file (nte182v302.img)

1.2. Copy the file (UpdTool.exe) for re-installation and the update file to the desktop holder of
the personal computer.

1.3. Turn the AIS controller on.

1.4. In the Main Menu, select [5.MAINTENANCE] - [6.SOFTWARE VERSION] to check the software data
version.
- Press and hold the PWR key, and select [6.SOFTWARE VERSION] to check the software data version.

1.5. Turn the AIS controller off.

1.6. Open the cover of Maintenance connector of the AIS controller.

1.7. Connect the D-SUB 9-pin straight cable between the Maintenance connector of the AIS controller and COM
port (RS-232C) of the personal computer.

2. Executing of Update
2.1. Turn the AIS controller on with maintenance mode.
- To turn the AIS controller on with maintenance mode, press and hold the MENU key and the PWR key
until characters appear on the AIS controller display.

2.2. In the Main Menu, select [6.FIELD MAINTENANCE] - [6.SOFTWARE UPDATE] - [TRANSPONDERUPDATE].
Select [ENT] on the bottom of the screen, then confirm that the following message is displayed immediately.

READY FOR TRANSPONDER

SOFTWARE UPDATE

[PLEASE RESTART AFTER

SOFTWARE UPDATE]

PRESS AND HOLD [PWR]+[OFF]

2.3. Close any application operating on the personal computer and start the file (UpdTool.exe) for re-installation.

2.4. Select “COM Port” menu, and select the connected COM port.

2.5. Click the “Version Check” button to display the version written in the current transponder.

2.6. Double click on the area where "Maintenance Version" is displayed, select the update file (nte182v302.img)
from the file selection screen and click "Open".

Caution:Be sure to select an update file dedicated to NTE-182 MAINTENANCE AIS TRANSPONDER.

2.7. Click “Update Start” button to start the software update. Confirm that “Now UpdatingAPL1” is displayed on the
screen of “msg box”.

2.8. About four minutes later, “APL1：Update succeeded” shall be displayed on the screen of “msg box”.

2.9. “APL1：Update succeeded” is not displayed or another message is displayed on the screen of “msg box”,
carry out the procedure of section 4 to retry update.

2.10. Close the file (UpdTool.exe) for re-installation.

2.11. Turn the AIS controller off.

3. Confirming of the software updateTurn the AIS controller on.

3.2. Carry out procedure of section 1.3 and 1.4 (software data version check), and confirm that the AIS
transponder software is updated.

Confirm that the software data version is ' Ver 3.02'.

3.3. Turn the AIS controller off.

3.4. Disconnect the D-SUB 9-pin cable from the Maintenance connector on the rear panel of the AIS controller.

3.5. Tighten the screws to fix the Maintenance connector cover on the rear panel of the AIS controller.

4. Software re-writing procedure if updating was unsuccessful

If the software update ends unsuccessful, due to D-SUB 9 pin cable came off and communication failed during
update, or ended the File(UpdTool.exe) by mistake etc, retry the update by the following procedure.
Reconnect D-SUB 9 pin cable connecting to the COM port of the personal computer and the maintenance
connector of AIS controller.
In case the File (UpdTool.exe) was ended by mistake, restart the File(UpdTool.exe) and do procedure of section
2.3 - 2.4, then do the following procedure.

4.1. Turn the AIS controller off.

4.2. Turn the AIS controller on with maintenance mode.

4.3. In the Main Menu, select [5.MAINTENANCE] - [3.ALARM HISTORY].

Then confirm that “062, A,V, Program Flash memory err” is displayed on the screen of AIS ALARM.

4.4. In the Main Menu, select [6.FIELD MAINTENANCE] - [6.SOFTWARE UPDATE] - [TRANSPONDER
UPDATE]. And Select [ENT] on the bottom of the screen.

4.5. Carry out the procedure from section 2.5 to 3.5.
