a. Why does the need arises for Muslim Identity?
According to the Muslim worldview, Muslim identity is formed not only through personal spiritual self-
determination, but also through the influence of significant external factors such as the state of surrounding
society's religious life, changes in the socio-cultural environment, and the circumstances of a Muslim's
socialization. The fact that Muslims understand the value and necessity of retaining their religious identity is
significant in the process of self-identification. Muslims' desire to maintain their identity is a stumbling
factor in resolving disagreements over Islamic customs.
To maintain Muslim identity, a stable relationship with a religious organization is maintained (visiting a
mosque, communicating with Muslim worship ministers and other believers), the lifestyle is brought into
compliance with the mandatory requirements that a Muslim must perform daily and throughout his life, and
must be based on Islamic legal principles and governed by Sharia (a system of laws governing religious,
state political, legal, property, family and marriage, personal life of Muslims).
b.  Why is identity important?
Identity has got a vital role in empowering individuals to practice their rights, responsibilities and freedom
fairly and equally in the modern world and the current society. It is crucial for social, economic and digital
inclusion as it creates awareness and gives access to basic human rights such as healthcare, pensions, social
benefits, right to vote and beyond. But to be able to access those rights, one needs to be able to prove that
they are part of society and have got an identity recognized by the world.
c. What role it can play in Nation Building & struggle for statehood?
National identity can emerge as a collective phenomenon as a result of the existence of elements from the
"common points" in people's daily lives: national symbols, language, history, national awareness, and
cultural artefacts. Patriotism is a positive manifestation of one's national identity, defined by national pride
and a positive emotion of love for one's country. Chauvinism, which refers to a solid belief in one's country's
superiority and great allegiance to one's country, is the most extreme expression of national identification.
