INTRODUCTION TO 3-PHASE TECHNOLOGY

Three phase technology

➢ Induction motors
➢ Operates at 4000 RPM in contrast to 2500 RPM in DC motors.
➢ DC propulsion rated for 750V,1000A whereas 3 phase propulsion(3-phase
propulsion.docx) configured for 2800V,300A. resulting in reduction of size of
power cables and losses concerned.
➢ Power to weight ratio high than DC machine.
➢ Torque Speed characteristics much steeper.(TS curve.png)
➢ Microprocessor control
➢ VVVF inverter and converter control.
➢ Supervision of all the functions and operations.
➢ Driving & braking control with automatic speed regulation.
➢ DC Link
➢ Supplies periodic and non-periodic energy requirement of load.
➢ Supplies reactive power to induction motor
