TBU (Trade Brake Unit):- Total 06 Nos. TBUs per bogie are fitted in WAG-9 bogie frame. These are of two types – (i) PBU (Parking Brake Unit) = 02 nos. per bogie (ii) Service Unit = 04 nos. per bogie In WAG-9 bogie frame one TBU applies brakes on a single wheel from both ends. TBUs are fitted on the rear end of each wheel of bogie frame. Parking Brake Units are fitted on RHS of bogie frame, one on the front wheel and another on the rear wheel. Service units are fitted on all three wheels at LHS of bogie frame and one middle wheel at RHS of bogie frame. Parking Brake Unit fitted in WAG-9 bogie frame Service unit fitted 04 nos. in each bogie frame 2. Two nos. Brake hanging plates are fitted with each TBU 3. Two nos. pairs of Brake Shoes (casted) are fitted with each TBU 4. Safety ropes are fitted with each TBU 5. Three nos. Tag Rod Units are fitted in each bogie frame. Tag Rod Units are fitted on the front side of each axle. 6. Tag Rod Levers are fitted on both ends of Tag Rod Unit 7. Brake Shoe Bases are attached with each Tag Rod Lever 8. Total twelve pairs Casted Brake Shoes are fitted in each bogie frame 9. Brake Rods are linked between Brake hanging plate and Tag rod lever. Total 12 nos. Brake rods are fitted in a bogie, one pair for each wheel braking. 10. Brake Rod Bolts are fitted with Brake Rods at both ends. 11. Small Brake Adjuster are fitted with Tag Rod Unit at both ends , 06 nos. each bogie frame. 12. Big brake adjusters are fitted with TBU hanging plate and Axle guide bearing, 06 nos. each bogie frame. 13. Brake shoe locking pin with chain are fitted to keep brake shoes intact Application of Brake in WAG-9 Loco When TBU is activated, it pushes the Brake hanging plate, which instead pushes the brake shoe to apply on wheel as well as it pushes the Brake Rod, which is attached with Tag rod lever on the other end. The tag rod lever lower portion is shifted away from the wheel and in return it pushes the brake shoe base at other end towards the wheel and thus brake is applied. In WAG-9, one TBU applies brake on one wheel separately. Brake application in WAG-9 Loco Shankar Sharma, SSE/ELB-18
