Introduction
 Internal defect has been observed on the components manufactured from the supplied stainless steel
bar of grade 1.4105, size 8.00 mm.
 Microanalysis has been performed on the received bar and component and discussed in the
respective section.

Conclusion / Discussion
1. Micro analysis of the bar and component reveals the internal defect ( Appears like a stress crack initiated from
the centre and extended towards surface).
2. The bar sample recived shows piping .
3. The supplied stainless steel bar grade 430F is sulphurized grade highly susceptable to stress crack during
secondary mechanical working.
4. Ultrasonic testing has not been performed on the supplied material due to size limitation ( 12-65 mm material
is feasible for online Ultrasonic testing) hence internal defect has not been detected.
5. The Complaint has been communicated to the supplier of wire rod for investigation and to take necessary
action at their end to over come centre looseness/piping.
