GENETICS

The significance of reliable and accessible testing to screen for the disease has been very
apparent over the course of the Covid-19 pandemic. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test
is one of the tests conducted to search for the hallmark of the SARS-COV-2 virus. In relation to
its valuable use in this time of crisis, what do we know as students about this technique in
genetic testing? To facilitate this inquiry, please be guided with the following questions:

1. What is PCR testing? How is it done?

A PCR test detects particular genetic material or RNA from an infection to assess whether it
is present in the body. The test is a molecular test that is used to identify if a person is infected
at the time the sample was obtained.

2. Are there inconsistencies in which they are administered or conducted especially

during this time? What are its implications if there are any?

There are other tests that are not consistent, and it becomes biased because the actual
results of a symptom are not shown or given.

3. What other testing techniques are there? Do they test for the genetic component of the
organism? How are they different with PCR testing?

Diagnostic testing and Screening testing are some techniques. Yes, because PCR test
included tests work by finding the DNA or RNA of a pathogen (disease-causing organism) or
abnormal cells in a sample. The Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is a method for making
several copies of a DNA fragment. DNA sequencing is a process that determines the exact
order of nucleotides in a DNA fragment.
