MODEL 9890 010 02093

SPECIFICATIONS:

The square field X-Ray Beam Limiting Device provides for the stepless adjustment of X-Ray
field dimension to the size of the image receptor or to that of the anatomical area of interest.

The collimator body contains 6 pairs of lead faced shutters controlled by means of two
knobs. Four pairs of shutters are positioned near the entrance window to control the X-ray
beam and eliminate the off-focus radiation.
The other two pairs of shutters are positioned near the exit window to provide a sharply
defined X-ray field.

The direct visualization of the X-Ray field is given by a light-beam which corresponds to the
X-Ray beam, within a tolerance of two percent of the selected distance. The light field center
is provided by the intersection of two perpendicular silk-screened lines in the Lexan window
and projected on the light field by the light beam.

To activate the light field, press the area marked with the light symbol. The light will switch on
for 30 seconds before automatically turning off. Average illumination is not less than 160 lux
(16 foot-candles); the edge contrast ratio is four to one.

The field size at the different Focus-Film Distances (FFD) is indicated by the dial indicators.

Collimator and Potter Bucky alignment is performed by means of a laser light fed for 30
seconds by the electronic timer.

Ralco s.r.l. MODEL 9890 010 02093

This product complies with DHHS Performance Standard "21 CFR Subchapter J" when
assembled and maintained in accordance with the instructions contained in this Instructions
Manual.

COMPATIBILITY WITH X-RAY TUBE HOUSING ASSEMBLIES:

Compatibility is determined by the ability to comply mechanically with the dimensional
drawing in Figure. 1-Page 12 of this Manual, and with the requirement that the tube housing
assembly have a minimum inherent filtration of 3 mm. Al. equivalent and a maximum
radiation leakage of 20 mr/hour measured at one meter from the source when operating at its
leakage technique factors (150 kVp at 4 mA).

MOUNTING THE COLLIMATOR TO THE X-RAY TUBE:

1. Determine the distance from the focal spot to the tube port face from the X-Ray tube
housing literature
2. Subtract the resulting distance from 80 mm. (3.15") and determine how many 1.5 mm
spacers (combined with the 16 mm thickness of the mounting flange) will be required to
make up the difference. The outer face of the collimator mounting flange must be at 80
mm. (3.15") from the focal spot. Allowable tolerance is 1 mm. (0.009").
3. Select four countersink bolts of suitable thread and of such length that they protrude
through the flange and spacers far enough to engage at least 5 threads into the tube port
face (M6x35). Screw the bolts leaving enough play to displace the flange.
4. Center the mounting flange with the Focal Spot by means of the 4 Allen screws placed
externally on the flange at 90° from each other. Securely tighten the countersink bolts.
5. Remove the lead cone from the tube port to provide clearance. Remove both top covers
from the collimator and manually adjust the collimator shutters to their widest setting.
6. Unscrew the four mounting Allen screws until the four tongues are completely withdrawn.
7. Carefully couple the collimator with the tube to ascertain that the primary shutters have
clearance to move in the port opening.
8. Place the collimator on the flange, tighten the four Allen mounting screws until the
collimator is held firmly to the tube housing; see Figure 1- Page 12 of this Manual

ELECTRICAL POWER CONNECTION:

WARNINGS
1. COLLIMATOR SUPPLY IS NOT PROTECTED BY A FUSE. CHECK THAT THE COLLIMATOR IS
PROTECTED BY AN EXTERNAL FUSE PRIOR TO CONNECTING
2. TO AVOID OVERHEATING THE COLLIMATOR DO NOT SWITCH THE LAMP ON FOR OVER
SUCCESSIVE TIMES. IF THIS SHOULD HAPPEN, ALLOW THE LAMP TO COOL FOR ABOUT FIVE
MINUTES.
