Leonardo da Vinci’s Experiment

In this experiment, you will explore the observation that Mr. da Vinci made about the standing
height and the kneeling height of a person.

Activity:

1. Using a meter stick, measure the standing height and then the kneeling height of four
other students (have students get in groups of 5 to perform this experiment).
2. Record the data in the table and then using a calculator, record the ratio of kneeling
height to standing height, rounding to the nearest hundredth.
3. Compare your ratios with those of other groups in the class.
4. Do you see a similar ratio?
