III. Instructions: This activity sheet focused on formulating a mini research by using
appropriate statistical design. Below are the activities with regard to this topic. Read
and understand the direction of each activity carefully.
Activity 1
1. Coco Martins` television show FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano wanted to ask viewers to
participate in an online poll on a voluntary basis.
2. The customer service unit of the shoes department in Gaisano Mall is conducting
a satisfaction survey by sampling from a list of 5, 000 costumer in the last two
months. The costumers in the population are grouped based on the brand or
manufacturer of the shoes brought (e.g Nike, Adidas, Puma, Champion, and World
Balance). The percentage of buyers in each brand is determined and multiplied to
the sample size.
4. The names of 1 city and 13 municipalities that compose Agusan del Sur were
written on pieces of papers. From these 5 were selected. In each city/municipality, 4
schools were selected. In each school 3 grade levels were selected. In each grade
level, 100 students were identified as participants.
5. In a Christmas party, every students of Grade 10 – Newton wrote his or her name
on a piece of paper and dropped it in a container. Winners were determined by
drawing the names from the container.
The barangay would like to conduct a survey on the perception of the voting
community on the peace and order situation in the barangay during the recent
pandemic on COVID-19.

2. The Philippine Sports commission (PSC) wants to find out what is the most
popular sports in the Philippines. Suggest a sampling method that can be used to
answer this research question.
3. Refer to question number 3, give 3 questions that you will ask in the
questionnaire.
1. Do a research survey on the topic that interests you (e.g. conduct of JS form or
Christmas party, implementation of school policies, students’ internet use habits.
Decide on the method and strategy for getting the data (e.g. interview,
questionnaire).
2. What specific questions will you ask your respondents? How many respondents
do you intend to survey? What sampling technique will you employ?
3. Pilot test your survey questionnaire on 5 students who share the same
characteristics as your actual respondents. Ask the students to comment on the
clarity of the direction and questions. Let them encircle unclear words or phrases.
Take note of the amount of time spent by each student in answering the
questionnaire. Then check if the students’ responses are sufficient to answer the
research questions. Based on the results of pilot test, revise your questionnaire
accordingly.
4. Conduct the survey. When the target number of respondents has been reached,
tally the responses, do a frequency count and present the results in tabular form, if
appropriate. Analyze the data using descriptive statistics and interpret the results.
