Detailed Lesson Exemplar in Mathematics 9

(4A`s Methodology)

Topic: Quadrilaterals that are Parallelogram

Time Frame: 1 Session
Date: May 04, 2021

I. Outcomes
Given several activities, students can do the following with at least 80 percent proficiency:
a. define parallelogram;
b. distinguish between shapes that are parallelogram and not parallelograms
c. create a house design using the different kinds of parallelograms;
d. cite some ways on how to promote healthy life style in order to survive in this pandemic
II. Subject Matter: Quadrilaterals that are Parallelogram

III. Learning Plan

A. ACTIVITY

A.1: Priming Activity

ACTIVITY: ANAGRAM (5 minutes)
An anagram is a type of word play, the result of rearranging the letter of a word or phrase to produce a
new word or phrase, using all the original letters exactly once.
e.g. Del Pilar PLARIDEL
1. MEDICAL - DECIMAL
2. CHIN - INCH
3. CLEANSE - SCALENE
4. THERE - THREE
5. ITEMS - TIMES
6. STEAL - LEAST
7. DREAMIEST - DIAMETERS
8. ALTERING - TRIANGLE
9. ANGEL - ANGLE
10. SALITADQUARREL - QUADRILATERALS

A.2: Main Activity

ACTIVITY: LOOK AT ME! (15 minutes)

The students will be divided into 7 groups. Each group will be given a shape. The group will describe
the shape in terms of the following:
1. Number of angles and sides.
2. Number of equal sides.
3. The kind of lines the shape is made of (e.g. parallel).
4. The number of pairs of parallel lines.
5. The kind of angles the shape is made of (e.g. right angle)
6. Name the shape you have.

The group will select a representative to present their output orally in the class.

B. ANALYSIS (5 minutes)
1. What are the common descriptions of the shape?
2. Does the shape you have has 4 angles? 4 sides?
3. What do we call a polygon having 4 sides and 4 angles?
4. What is a quadrilateral?
5. Refer to rectangle, square and rhombus. Is there common between these figures?
6. How do these figures related?
7. What do we call these figures?
8. Can you define what a parallelogram is?

C. ABSTRACTION AND ORGANIZATION (15 minutes)

The teacher will tell a story of a king who forgot the names of his sons and grandsons. The students will
help the king to remember the names of his family members by identifying the quadrilaterals described by the
teacher. Each group will be given pictures that represents the sons and grandsons of the king.

1. PARALLELOGRAM – A quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel side.

2. TRAPEZOID – A quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel side.
3. KITE – A quadrilateral with two pairs of congruent side.
4. RHOMBUS – A parallelogram with four congruent side.
5. RECTANGLE – A parallelogram with four right angles.

6. SQUARE – A parallelogram with four congruent angles and four congruent side.
7. ISOSCELES TRAPEZOID – A trapezoid with two legs congruent.

The teacher will then show a video about Quadrilaterals.

D. APPLICATION (15 minutes)

ACTIVITY: My Dream House

Suppose you are to design your own dream house. Your design must include all the different
kinds of parallelogram.
1. How will you prepare the design of your dream house?
2. Make a design of your dream house.
3. Imagine the world without quadrilateral. What do you think your dream house would look like?
4. Present your output orally in the class.

IV. ASSIGNMENT

In this pandemic period there are lots of conditions that we need to determine in order for us to survive.
We need to follow some health protocols like social distancing, wearing of face masks, frequently and washing of
hands and live a healthy life style. Just like the quadrilaterals, there are many conditions before we can say that it
is a parallelogram. As a student, cite some ways on how to promote healthy life style in order to survive in this
pandemic. Write your answers on a separate sheet of paper.
