Introductory Message

For the Facilitator:

Welcome to the English 3 Self-Learning Module on Drawing Conclusions.

This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed, and


reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig through its mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st-century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the module:

will help you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this

After completing the module, you will be able to:


1. Draw conclusions from facts and information given in a text.

PRETEST

Make the best conclusion for each item. Encircle the letter of the
answer.

1. My dad goes to a clinic to work. He helps people who are sick


to feel better again.

2. Mr. Cruz was on a bus. At one of the stops, he saw a woman


holding a baby who couldn’t find a seat.

for it to get dark.

LESSON

You probably practice inferencing all the time like when you
infer character traits from a person’s actions. You can say that a
person is jolly if you see him/her smile or laugh often. You can say
that a person is kind if you see him/her help the needy. You can

make an inference based on the facts and information you
observe in the text you read.

Read the situation and study the illustrations.

You see dark smoke from afar. You heard loud sirens coming
from fire trucks. People near you were asking each other, “From
what place does the smoke come?” What would you conclude
upon hearing these details?

There is fire.

Today, we will be talking about making or drawing


conclusions. A conclusion is a decision we make after studying
facts and information. In a series of actions or events, the
conclusion is the final result.

Let us study some examples.

At first, the clouds became dark. The winds were blowing.


Everyone prepared his/her umbrella.

What can we conclude?

It rained.

We were able to make a conclusion because of our personal


experiences and observation about the clouds. Clouds are made
of water droplets. Within a cloud, water droplets condense onto
one another, causing the droplets to grow. When these water
droplets get too heavy to stay suspended in the cloud, they fall to
Earth as rain.

Here is another example.

Joan prepared well and studied hard for her upcoming


summative test. She was happy upon getting the result of her test.
What would we conclude?

She got a perfect score.

We came up with this conclusion because of the clues from


the text and what we knew from your previous experiences.

Another one:

Look at the picture of a butterfly. To grow into an adult, it


undergoes complete metamorphosis. They are egg, larva, pupa,
and adult. The stages showed the beginning and end of a cycle
and proven to be true.

We can say that:


✓ Some insects undergo complete metamorphosis.
✓ Butterflies are insects.
✓ Butterflies are insects that undergo complete metamorphosis.

Guided Practice
Make conclusions from the given situations.

A. Khria stayed home and obeyed the rules for the home
quarantine. Instead of going out, she reviewed the past lessons
using the DepEd Commons. What can you conclude?

She did not catch the virus and did not forget her past lessons.

You were able to draw conclusions because of the reminders


that you constantly hear from the government. Thoughtful viewers
and readers gather and evaluate information based on what is
happening.

B. The news announced that there was an increase in the number


of COVID-19 patients. Pauline’s family heard it. Their father called
them and they went inside the room, and asked them to bow their
heads. What can you conclude?

Pauline’s family prayed together for the patients’ fast recovery.

C. Mr. Cruz, being a barangay worker, served as one of the front


liners. The frontliners were obliged to take the swab test. One day,
he did not appear in his station. What can you conclude?

He tested positive of the virus.

Activity 1
Analyze the events and write the word True if the last sentence gives
the correct conclusion, and False if not. Write the answer before the
number.

Activity 2
With the help of your family members, come up with a conclusion
for the following events. Draw your answer inside the square.

1. Mary woke up to the smell of bacon, eggs, and pancakes. Her


stomach started to rumble, so she jumped out of the bed and
raced downstairs. What can you conclude?

2. Hannah saw her mother get the flour, fat, sugar, eggs, liquid,
salt, and leavening agents. She mixed the ingredients in a
bowl. Then, she preheated the oven. What conclusion can
you draw from the situation?

provide necessary help and assistance.
