Level Appropriate Text with Accuracy.

This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed, and

reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig through its mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st-century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the

used to depict skill, action, and purpose. Through our hands, we may learn, create,
and accomplish. Hence, the hand in this learning resource signifies that you as a
learner is capable and empowered to successfully achieve the relevant competencies
and skills at your own pace and time. Your academic success lies in your own hands!

This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You
will be enabled to process the contents of the learning material while being an active

How fast can you read? As a grade six pupil you should know how to
read properly with accuracy.
Reading aloud is one of the most important things that we can do to
facilitate learning in all subject areas. Reading aloud builds fundamental
skills like vocabulary development, fluency, and expressive reading.

Here are some tips for more effective read-aloud activity.

1. Read at a comfortable rate like the regular conversation speech.
2. Make sure to pronounce every word correctly.
3. In order to be heard, make your voice louder.
4. Establish eye contact to your listeners.
5. Pause when necessary.
6. Make distinctions between characters when you read.
 Now, we are going to read aloud a story accurately. The story has 283

Reading of the Story

Read the story aloud for two minutes in front of your family members.
 The Red Moon
There was once a little grey planet that was very sad. The people living
there hadn't looked after it, despite them having all the inventions and space
ships you could ever need. They had contaminated the whole countryside so
much with rubbish and pollution that there were no plants or animals left.
One day, a little boy was walking on the planet, when he passed a cave
and noticed a small red flower inside. The flower was very sick - almost dying
- so the boy carefully dug up the flower, with roots, soil and everything.
Then, he started looking for a place where he could look after it. He searched
all over the planet, but everywhere was so contaminated that there was no
place the flower could possibly live in. Then he looked up at the sky and
noticed the moon. It seemed to the boy that maybe the plant could survive
there.
So the little boy put on his astronaut suit, and climbed into a space
ship. He put the little red flower in the back, and off they went to the moon.
Far away from all that pollution - and with the boy visiting it every day
to tend it - the flower started to grow. The flower was so well cared for, that it
had soon germinated, giving birth to others, and these other flowers spread
onto other flowers. Before long, the whole moon was completely covered with
flowers.
That's why, whenever the little boy's flowers open up, for a few minutes
the moon takes on a soft red sheen, like a warning light. Maybe it's telling us
that if you don't look after your planet, a day will come when flowers will only
be able to grow on the moon.

The Lion and The Mouse

by Aesop

A Lion lay asleep in the forest, his great head resting on his paws. A
timid little Mouse came upon him unexpectedly, and in her fright and haste
to get away, ran across the Lion’s nose. Roused from his nap, the Lion laid
his huge paw angrily on the tiny creature to kill her.

“Spare me!” begged the poor Mouse. “Please let me go and someday I
will surely repay you.”

The Lion was much amused to think that a Mouse could ever help him.
But he was generous and finally let the Mouse go.

Some days later, while stalking his prey in the forest, the Lion was
caught in the toils of a hunter’s net. Unable to free himself, he filled the forest
with his angry roaring. The Mouse knew the voice and quickly found the Lion
struggling in the net. Running to one of the great ropes that bound him, she
gnawed it until it parted, and soon the Lion was free.

“You laughed when I said I would repay you,” said the Mouse. “Now you
see that even a Mouse can help a Lion.”

Mang Carding lived by the foot of a mountain. He cut woods to sell.

One day, he was cutting woods near a brook. His ax fell into the water.
“Oh! What shall I do? I lost my ax.”
To his surprise, a big fish came up. It was holding a golden ax in its mouth.
“Is this the ax you lost?” asked the fish.
“No!” answered Mang Carding. “That is not mine. My ax is made of wood.”
The fish went down the water. It came up with a silver ax in its mouth.
“Is this the ax you lost?” the fish asked.
“No!” answered Mang Carding. “That is not mine. My ax is made of wood.
The fish went down the water again. It came up with an ax of wood.
“Is this the ax you lost?” asked the fish.
“Yes! Yes! Tha’s my ax. Thank you very much”, said Mang Carding.
“You are a very honest man. You may have the gold and silver axes too,” said
the fish.
