1. General
n The high-current moulded-case circuit breakers shall comply with the general rules of IEC 60947 – 1 and 2 or
standards derived from the latter (VDE 0660 ; BS4752 ; UTE 63120 ). Versions complying with UL 489 shall also
be available.
n The high-current moulded-case circuit breakers shall belong to category B as defined in the general rules
mentioned above. Certificates attesting to compliance with these rules shall be established taking into account the
following performance levels for the test sequences: service breaking capacity (Ics) equal to at least 75% of the
rated ultimate breaking capacity (Icu) and a rated short-time withstand current (Icw) of 30 kA / 0.5 s.
n The rated ultimate breaking capacity (Icu) of each high-current moulded-case circuit breaker shall be equal to at
least the value of the short-circuit current (Isc) at the point of installation on the electric circuit, unless the
upstream circuit breaker makes it possible to ensure coordination (as defined in Appendix A of IEC 60947-2); in
this case, the coordination between the two circuit breakers shall be confirmed and guaranteed by tests.
n The high-current moulded-case circuit breakers shall have a rated operational voltage of 690V AC (50/60Hz).
n The high-current moulded-case circuit breakers shall have a rated insulation voltage of 750V AC (50/60Hz).
n The high-current moulded-case circuit breakers shall be suitable for reverse feed without any reduction in
performance up to 500 V CA.
n The high-current moulded-case circuit breakers shall be available in 3-pole or 4-pole (neutral protection) versions.
On 4-pole circuit breakers, a 3-position switch shall be provided to set neutral protection to any of the following
levels: unprotected neutral (4P3D), half-protected neutral (4P3D+N/2) or fully protected neutral (4P4D).
n The moulded-case circuit breakers shall be actuated by a handle that clearly indicates the three fundamental
positions: ON, OFF and TRIPPED.
n The operating mechanism shall be designed in such a way that the position of the operating handle of the circuit
breaker indicates the real position of the main contacts.
n The high-current moulded-case circuit breakers shall be designed to allow locking in OFF (open) position (if
required) by keylocks or padlocks.
Communication
The circuit breaker shall be capable of communicating the following data via a bus:
Circuit-breaker status (open/closed, connected/disconnected/test, tripped on a fault, ready to close)
Control-unit settings
Tripping causes
The measurements processed by the control unit
Communications functions shall be independent of the control unit.
End-of-life
n Environmental considerations and processing of materials at end of service life.
The manufacturer shall provide instructions on the removal, dismantling and processing of circuit-breaker
materials at the end of service life.
Moulded-case circuit breakers from 630 A to 1600 A
1. General

derived from the latter (VDE 0660 ; BS4752 ; UTE 63120 ). Versions complying with UL 489 shall also be

n The moulded-case circuit breakers (except for current-limiting circuit breakers) shall belong to category B as
defined in the general rules mentioned above. Certificates attesting to compliance with these rules shall be
established taking into account the following performance levels for the test sequences: service breaking capacity
(Ics) equal to at least 50% of the rated ultimate breaking capacity (Icu) and a rated short-time withstand current
(Icw) of 25 kA / 0.5 s (except for current-limiting circuit breakers).
n The rated ultimate breaking capacity (Icu) of each moulded-case circuit breaker shall be equal to at least the
value of the short-circuit current (Isc) at the point of installation on the electric circuit, unless the upstream circuit

n The moulded-case circuit breakers shall have a rated insulation voltage of 750V AC (50/60Hz).
n The moulded-case circuit breakers shall be designed for vertical, horizontal or flat mounting without any reduction
in performance.
n The moulded-case circuit breakers shall be suitable for reverse feed without any reduction in performance up to
500 V CA.
n The moulded-case circuit breakers shall be available in fixed or withdrawable versions and in 3-pole or 4-pole
(neutral protection) versions.
n The moulded-case circuit breakers shall be actuated by a handle that clearly indicates the three fundamental
positions: ON, OFF and TRIPPED.
n The operating mechanism shall be designed in such a way that the position of the operating handle of the circuit
breaker indicates the real position of the main contacts, even if the circuit breaker is equipped with a rotary
handle.
n The moulded-case circuit breakers shall provide double insulation of the front face to allow on-site installation of
auxiliaries without de-energising the installation. All electrical auxiliaries and accessories such as voltage
releases, (shunt or undervoltage type) and auxiliary contacts shall be designed for easy on-site installation. All
electrical auxiliaries shall be equipped with terminal blocks and shall be of the snap-in type.
o Testing
A test connector shall be provided on the control unit to allow complete testing by an external test unit.
o Thermal memory
The control unit shall optimise protection of downstream cables and equipment in the event of repeated overloads
or earth faults by storing the temperature-rise data in memory.
