Proving Congruence
How to prove that two triangles are congruent.
There’s 4 different ways in which we could show this: !
a
SAS Congruence Postulate
Two sides and the included angle.
b
ASA Congruence Postulate
Two angles and a side.
c
SSS Congruence Postulate
Three sides.

If two triangles both had the same properties indicated, would
they be congruent? If so, which congruence test would prove
this?

Congruent Right
Triangle Theorems
Learning Objectives: Use congruent right triangle theorems in proving
congruency of two right triangles
Hypotenuse – Leg (HL) Theorem
If the hypotenuse and a leg of one right triangle are
congruent to the hypotenuse and a leg of another right
triangle, then the triangles are congruent
Given: △PQR and △XYZ are right triangles, with right
angles Q and Y respectively.
𝑃𝑅 ≅ 𝑋𝑍, and 𝑃𝑄 ≅𝑋𝑌
Prove: △PQR ≅ △XYZ

The Hypotenuse-Acute Angle (HA)
Theorem
If the hypotenuse and an acute angle of a right triangle are
congruent to the hypotenuse and an acute angle of
another triangle, then the two triangles are congruent.
Given: Consider the right triangles HOT and DAY with
right angles at O and A, respectively, such that
HT ≅ DY, and ∠H ≅ ∠D.
If the legs of one right triangle are congruent to the legs of another
right triangle, then the triangles are congruent.
Given: Consider the right triangles HOT and DAY with right
angles at O and A, respectively, such that HO ≅ DA,
and OT≅ AY.
