Cancer led the growth of unusual cell which divide uncontrollably. It can destroy body tissue. It can
attack the immune system of the body to develop a tumour and any other impairment that can be
lethal.

What is cancer?

Cancer is one of the most dreaded and scariest diseases. Globally, it led to the death of almost 9.5
million people in one year. According to the report of world health organization (WHO), cancer is the
second leading disease which led to the death of people. As per studies, nearly 1300 person dies
every day in India because of cancer. These reports are truly shocking and scary.

Cancer is the name given to the disease in which certain cells of the human body start dividing
rapidly, refusing to stop. All these extra cells start to grow when none of them is needed in the body
and gradually they start spreading into the other tissues. It can even cause a malignant tumour. A
cell can break away from those tumours and can form tumours in another part of the human body.

Types of cancer

Doctor divides cancer into different types. It is based on where it grows and begins. There are four
main types of cancer -:

Carcinomas - Carcinomas is one of the most common forms of cancer. It develops in the skin or the
tissue that covers the internal organ like the liver and kidney. It forms solid tumours. Example - lung
cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer

Sarcomas - It begins in connective tissue like bone, muscle and lymph vessels

Leukaemia's cancer - It is a blood cancer. It develops when white blood cells in the body start rising
in the number.

Lymphomas - It develops in the lymphatic systems. The lymphatic system is a network system
which helps to fight infection.

Causes of cancer

The substances that give rise to cancer are called carcinogens. There is the various reason because of
which cancer occurs and that is:

Genetic defects, age, skin type and gender

2. Environmental exposure

UV radiation, ionising radiation and fine particulate matter

3. Occupational risk factors
