PHYSICAL DATA
Melting point 549°C; Density 3.46; Vapor pressure 1 mm at 748°C; Very soluble in water or
alcohol; pH (1% solution in water) about 9.
FIRE HAZARDS
Extreme heat may cause fumes of bromine to be given off. Avoid inhalation of vapors.
Firefighters wear SCBA. NFPA # 2-0-0.
HEALTH HAZARDS
Irritating to skin, eyes and mucous membranes. Large dosages may cause CNS depression. Chronic
exposure (ingestion or inhalation) may cause skin eruptions, CNS disturbances or blood disorder.
Toxicity - LD 50 (oral-rat) 1800 mg/kg; OSHA PEL/ACGIH TLV not established. No evidence of
carcinogenicity.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
Wear goggles while handling. Use good ventilation or suitable respirator to avoid inhalation
of dust if present.
FIRST AID
Wash contact area thoroughly with water. If eye irritation persists, see a physician. If
swallowed, give water to drink and get medical attention. Do not induce vomiting unless directed
by a physician.
