section’s submission folder in LumiNUS by 12 pm (Files >
Section X > Team xx)
 Nomenclature for uploaded file:
 SecRep_Team_xx_Sec_y.pdf (Example: SecRep_Team_10_Sec_3.pdf

 One printed copy (double-sided) to be submitted to your respective

supervisor by 12 pm (if asked for by your supervisor). A drop box will
be placed outside the supervisor’s office for you to drop your reports.
Kindly mention the submission date and time on the cover page.

 Page limit: 28 (all inclusive)

Note: Kindly check with your respective supervisor on submission of
HYSYS, Matlab and Excel files

April 11 - Team Report
 Abstract or Summary (1 page)
 Cost Estimation and Economic Analysis (≤ 15 pages; including
references)
 Safety (≤ 12 pages; including references and P&ID/PFD with relief
devices for the most hazardous unit)
 Sustainability (≤ 5 pages; including references)
 Entire Team Report < 33 pages (excluding title page, table of
contents, list of symbols/figures/tables)
 Upload to LumiNUS
 One electronic copy (pdf file) per team (Files > Team Report > Team
Leader xx)
 One HYSYS file per team with complete plant simulation (Files: Team
Simulation > Team Leader xx]
 File nomenclature: Team_xx.pdf and Team_xx.hsc
 Upload both files by 12:00 pm 4
Week 13 (Dates TBA): Oral Presentation

Each student will make a 10-minute presentation before

his/her respective advisor. Presentation will be followed by
10 minutes of Q&A

 Time slots for presentations will be posted online

(Instructions will be provided by your supervisor)

Scope of Presentation
 Process development
 Design of individual section

5
April 25
Peer Evaluation
 Each team member will assess the contribution of other
members of his/her team for the team tasks
 Peer evaluation report will be taken into consideration for
grading
 Done online

Team Leader Evaluation

 Team members evaluate the performance of their team
leader
6
0.5% for every 2 pages exceeding 28 pages (section report)
0.5% for every 2 pages exceeding 33 pages (team report)
2% for not following report format guidelines
2% per day of delay
1% for wrong naming format or submission into wrong folder
2% for failure to complete peer evaluation

2.5 cm margins on all sides

Main Text - Font: Times New Roman size 12; Line spacing: 1.15
Tables/figures, table of contents, lists (e.g. list of figures) – Font: Times
New Roman size 10; Line spacing 1.15
Hard copies, if asked for by your supervisor: Print on both sides of A4
paper 7
 Summary
 Problem statement
 Alternate pathways available
 Comparative analysis and preferred process
• Justifications for choice of process and conditions
 Detailed design of main equipment
 Internals of main equipment
 Sizing of auxiliary equipment
 Alternative technologies
 Highlights of critical/creative ideas (max 1 page)
 PFD and stream data

Note: Kindly refer to the scope provided by your respective supervisor to

understand their expectations

8
 New ways of solving a problem (can be a major or minor
problem)
 Special considerations or practical issues (safety,
sustainability, etc)
 New perspective to justify solutions or decisions
 New effective style of presenting a written report or part
of it
 Any other creative ideas

9
Abstract (Responsibility of Team Leader)
 Summary of economic feasibility, safety, and
sustainability of the proposed project and any other
recommendations

Safety
 - HAZOP study of the most hazardous unit

10
 Cost Estimation and Economic Analysis
Responsibility of each team member:
 Equipment schedule listing all major equipments
(including pumps, etc.)
 Cost estimation
 Present the above information as separate tables for
each section, with name of team member
Collective responsibility of team:
 Economic analysis
 Discussion on profitability
Note: State and justify sources of information and
assumptions as applicable
11
Sustainability
Assess the proposed design using various sustainability
metrics

12
 Systematic and sound application of fundamental
chemical engineering principles
 Justifications provided
 Equations stated and referenced, or derived
 Assumptions clearly explained; any sources of
uncertainty discussed
 Data and results of any computer program used clearly
presented

13
1. Keep in mind the purpose (report submitted by a vendor to
a client with justified recommendations)
2. Be specific
3. Logical sequence in flow of information is vital
Example:
 k. Design of Reactor
 k.0 Executive Summary
 k.1 Introduction/problem description
 k.2 Alternatives available for solution – discussion
 k.3 Justification for preferred solution
 k.4 Description of solution
 k.x ….
 k… Summary/Conclusions
4. Table/plot is better than text 14
5. REFERENCES
 References (books, journal papers etc.) provided at
appropriate place in the text
 Use standard and consistent format for referencing
6. CALCULATIONS
 Symbols and Notation
 Source of Data/Correlations
 SI Units
 Number of significant figures in quantities
 Numbering of equations
 Captions and numbers for Figures, Tables etc.
 Coordinates for graphs
 Discussions
7. ENGLISH
 No excuse for spelling and grammatical mistakes!
 Minor mistakes create the first and last impression!

15
- Ensure that all relevant / important information is
captured in PFD/stream data

- Equipment schedule listing all major equipment should

be included in team report

16
Example: PFD (from Towler and Sinnott)

17
Example: Equipment Schedule
