RESULTS AND DISCUSSION OF DATA

This chapter presents, analyzes and interprets the data gathered from the

respondents to determine the influence of social media to the academic performance of

Grade 12 students in Notre Dame of Arakan, Inc.

Table 1 presents the average mean of the respondents. Data shows that the

Senior High School respondents obtained the average mean of 86.07 with the

descriptive equivalent of Proficient level of Proficiency on student’s performance.

The result of the study was supported from the source of assessment and rating

of learning outcomes of the senior high school students, which means that the

developed fundamental knowledge and skills and core understandings and with little

guidance from the teacher and/or with some assistance from peers, can transfer these

understandings through authentic performance tasks.

Table 2 presents the ten (10) statements about the influence of social media to

the academic performance of Grade 12 students in Notre Dame of Arakan, Inc. Data

shows that the lowest mean is 2.33 with the descriptive equivalent of disagree and the

highest mean is 3.13 with the descriptive equivalent of agree and the grand mean is 3.0

with descriptive equivalent of agree. This implies that social media have positive effect

to the academic performance of Grade 12 students in NDAI.

The result of the study supports the study of Hasnain, et al. (2015) carried out a

research to study the relationship between the use of social media and student’s

academic performance in any institutions.

The results suggest, social media has an inverse relationship with academic

performance. Social media platform used in positive manner it can help students and

youth in gaining knowledge that can be used to enhance their academic performance.

SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Presented in this chapter are the summary, conclusions and recommendations of

the study.

Summary

This study was conducted at Notre Dame of Arakan, Inc., Doroluman, Arakan,

Cotabato with the total of fifteen respondents from the Senior High School level.

Descriptive method was used in this study. The researchers used a survey

questionnaire in order to reveal the relationship of the variables.

The purpose of this study is to determine the influence of social media to the

academic performance of Grade 12 Students in NDAI officially enrolled for school year

2020-2021. Specifically, it sought to answer the following question: what is the

influence of social media to academic performance of the respondents; is there a

significant relationship between social media and academic performance of Grade 12

NDAI respondents?

Based on the problem stated, the researcher tested the null hypothesis which

states that there is no significant relationship between social media and academic

performance of the respondents.

Conclusions

academic performance was not affected from using social media.

social media to the academic performance of respondents in senior high school

students. And that there is no significant relationship between effect of social

media to the academic performance of the senior high school students of NDAI.

Recommendations

In the light of the findings, recommendations are made:

1. Seminars should be organized in various schools or faculties to enlighten

students more about the possible implications of social media usage on their

academic performance.

2. Students should make sure that they use social networking sites judiciously to

ensure that they do not become detrimental to their academics.

3. Teachers/lecturers should adopt new strategies by channeling assignments

or discussions on social media platforms to help inculcate the habit of using

these sites for academic work.

4. Students must minimize the time they spend on social media to avoid being

obsessed on unnecessary activities.

5. The school principal should restrict access to certain social media sites that

maybe prone to distracting students’ attention during school hours as a mean

of minimizing their use.
