A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 10

RUSSEL ECHAVEZ PANUGAN

I. Objective:
At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to:
1. Express the given roots of polynomial equation into factored form.
2. Creates polynomial equation with integral coefficients of x.
3. Demonstrate mastery in applying FOIL Method.
II. Subject Matter:
a. Topic: Creating
Polynomial Equation
b. Materials: Chalk,
chalkboard, visual aid,
laptop, TV set
c. Values Infused:
Cooperation, Appreciation,
Determination

III. Procedures

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparation

Once the teacher entered the classroom. The

teacher called one of his/or her learners to
lead a prayer.

Okay, before anything else may I request

everyone to please stand for the prayer to be
led by (Learner 1)

Okay Learner 1 please come here in front to Learner 1: Lord’s Prayer

lead the prayer. Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom
come, thy will be done on earth as it is
in heaven. Give us this day our daily
bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as
we forgive those who trespass against
us; and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil Amen.

Good Morning class! All learners: Good Morning Ma’am

Emz
How are you today? Learner 2: I am doing alright Ma’am
Wow! Nice to hear that learner 2. Emz.
Did you have had a good night sleep class? All learners: Yes, Ma’am Emz.
Very good!
Before you take your seats please pick-up pieces of ( Student’s picked all the pieces of
papers and put it inside the trash can. papers inside the classroom)
Okay you may now take your seats, I will now (Students will raised their hand
check the attendance. (checking the attendance) whenever they are called and will say
present.)
I would like to remind everyone about the rules
inside this classroom.
1. No rude behaviour inside the classroom
2. No to bullying inside the classroom
3. And respect everyone.

B. Motivation
*Review on multiplying polynomials using the
FOIL method.
Review the following:
Answers: 1. 2x2+7x-15
1. ( x+5) (2x-3) 2. 3a2 -2ab –b2=0

2. (a - b) (3a+b)

Is it possible to form a polynomial equation given

its roots?
Possible Answer: Yes

In what way?
Possible Answer: By creating polynomial
equations with integral coefficients of x.

C. Presentation

Change the following roots to polynomial equation

in
factored form given the roots:
roots : 2, -1
Answer: (x-2)(x+1)=0

D. Discussion Proper.
Discussion: Using the FOIL method

x2 ---------- multiplying the first term

-2x + x ---- add the inner/outer term
-2 ---------- the product of the last term
we obtain : x2 –x -2

Answer: x2-x-2=0

GROUP ACTIVITY : (Group the class into 5

groups and assign one number per group )

Give a polynomial equation with integral

coefficients that has the following roots:
1. -1,3,-6 3. 2, 5 5. ±4
2. ± 2 , 4. ±3
Expected Answers:
1. x3-4x2 -15x -18=0
2. x2 – 4=0
3. x2 -7x +10=0
4. x2 – 9=0
5. x2 – 16=0

E. Drills/Enhancing Activity

GROUP ACTIVITY: (The leader will report the

answer to the class). Each group will give at least 1
example of polynomial equation with 2 possible
roots and 1 example with 3 0r more possible roots.

F. Application

People Who Use Polynomials

For example, an engineer designing a roller coaster

would use polynomials to model the curves, while
a civil engineer would use polynomials to design
roads, buildings and other structures.

G. Generalization

Guide Questions for Generalization:

1. How are you going to express polynomial
equations, given its roots?
2. What convenient method are you going to use to
express the roots in polynomial equations?

IV. Evaluation:

For each ítem, give a polynomial equation with integer coefficients that has the following
roots.
1. ± 5 ,2
2. 1, -2
3. ± 6
Expected Answers: 2. x2 +x -2=0
1. x3-2x2-25x+50=0 3. x2 -36=0

V. Assignment:
With the given numbers as roots, first change it in factored form and express it as a
polynomial equation with integral coefficients of x.
For example:
1. ±2, 3
2. 2, -1, 3
Expected Answers:
1.x3-3x2-4x+12=0 2. x3-4x2+x+6=0
