Passive Voice

Dilansir dari The Writing Center, passive voice merupakan “a passive construction occurs when you make the object of an action into the subject of a sentence. That is, whoever
or whatever is performing the action is not the grammatical subject of the sentence.” Dari definisi di atas dapat disimpulkan bahwa passive voice subjek kalimat tidak melakukan
aksi melainkan menerima aksi. Misalnya dalam Bahasa Indonesia, kata kerja menjadi berawal di-, seperti: disapu, disetir, dimakan, dan sebagainya.

Contoh:
 The house was built in 1654.
(Rumah itu dibangun pada tahun 1654)

 The road is being repaired.


(Jalan itu sedang diperbaiki)

 My car has been stolen!


(Mobilku telah dicuri!)

Simple Present Tense
passive O + is/am/ are + V3 + by + S The room is cleaned by Sania every day
Present Continuous Active S + is/am/are + V-ing + O The children are reading books in the library
tense Passive O + is/am/are + being + V3 + by + S The books are being read by the children in the library
Active S + have/has + V3 + O Mr. Tom has taught the students for one year
Present Perfect Tense
Passive O + have/has + been + V3 + by + S The students have been taught by Mr. Tom for one year
Active S + V2 + O Rico typed a proposal for a school trip
Simple Past Tense
Passive O + was/were + V3 + by + S A proposal for school trip was typed by Rico
Active S + was/were + V-ing + O Fanny and Fita were discussing a problem when I arrived
Past Progressive Tense
Passive O + was/were + being + V3 + by + S A problem was being discussed by Fanny and Fita when I arrived
Past Perfect Tense Active S + had + V3 + O Edi had locked the door before he left his house
Passive O + had + been + V3 + by + S The door had been locked by Edi before he left his house
Active S + will/ shall + V1 + O The teacher will deliver an announcement this afternoon
Simple Future Tense
Passive O + will/shall + be + V3 + by + S An announcement will be delivered by the teacher this afternoon
Modal Auxiliary Active S + Modal Aux + V1 + O Randy must obey the school rules
