STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Over the years, one can never say, “I have reached the destination of knowledge”. That is the
greatness of pursuit of knowledge that has always been a propelling force, which made me to
engage myself in search of it. What are advancements in automobile and aircraft industry? What
are recent technologies involved in manufacturing? What are emerging techniques in the field of
Robotics? These questions have aroused my curiosity towards the field of Mechanical
Engineering. An undergraduate study is deficient to suffice this thirst. Hence, I am determined to
pursue my graduate study. Also, achieving a graduate degree is a way of attaining my career goal
as a research professional at an academic or commercial, research oriented organization.

My Education:

I completed my schooling from St. Joseph’s Public School, Hyderabad, under ICSE board (New
Delhi) in the year 2006 with an aggregate of 85%. I had my mind setup to become an engineer
and with that thought I enrolled myself, in Intermediate course with majors Mathematics,
Physics and Chemistry. I completed my Intermediate degree in the year 2008 with an aggregate
of 95%, from S.R.M. Junior College, Hyderabad. Then I appeared for EAMCET entrance exam
and ranked 14092 which helped me to secured admission in Muffakham Jah College Of
Engineering And Technology, affiliated to Osamania University. My Bachelors Engineering
(Mechanical) course was for a period of four years. I am presently in the final year of my
Bachelors degree and my results are expected by end of June 2012. I have always been a topper
in my class and have secured distinction till fourth year first semester with an aggregate of 78%.

During the course, I have worked, with my friends as a group, keenly and progressively towards
the academics as well as the extracurricular activities. As far as my interests are concerned, I
have taken up industrial training on CAD softwares like PRO-E and Solidworks, which primarily
deals with the designing of various components and their assemblies along with simulation. I
have also taken up industrial training on CAE software, Ansys which primarily deals with
structural and dynamic analysis.

Throughout my undergraduate education, I have been a keen participant in extra-curricular

activities. With the support of the academic faculty at MJCET and my friends, I have had the
opportunity to participate in various CAD and Robotics competitions on various national and
international levels. I have presented a design of a drum brake along with its animation, a
competition organized by SAE (Southern Section), for which I won first prize in my college and
stood second all over Andhra Pradesh. Moreover I participated in International Robotics
competition called ABU Robocon for the years 2010, 2011 and 2012. The competition consists
of three pick and place robots which have to perform different tasks every year. I am also the
captain of college team for this event in the 2012, which is a team of 15 members. It is through
these competitions and projects that I sought to gain knowledge outside the scope of the
curriculum. Attending these symposia not only enhanced my communication and presentation
skills but also helped me to get exposed to the industry and research organizational activities. It
also provided me with the opportunity to meet Eminent People in the field of Automobile and
Robotics. Enthusiasm is the match that lights the candle of my achievements.

Why Australia?

It was about two months ago that I voiced my area of interest to my elder brother who is
completing his PhD in Australia . He then gave me the idea of pursuing such a specialized course
in Australia itself. He told me of the pros and cons of studying in Australia and the support
which can be provided by the family. We also discussed at length of studying a specialized
course in engineering and the more generalized master’s course in engineering science and my
job placements after the completion of this master’s degree.

On further research I could understand that Australia is one of the countries in the world that has
legislation to ensure the quality of education services and to safeguard the rights of international
students and also offers excellent value for money with economical living expenses and tuition
costs along with modern infrastructure facilities. Also Australia has a truly universal outlook,
which is manifested in its rapidly expanding international students’ population. This encouraged
me to select Australia for Higher Studies. It now seems as Australia presets to me a better place
than the US where I can fulfill my academic requirements.

English Proficiency:

Right through my education English has been the medium of instruction. Hence I have a good
command on the language. I appeared for the International English Language Testing System,
IELTS and secured an overall aggregate of 7.5 bands.

Why Austrailian National University and Why the course, Master of Engineering?

I have researched for many options available to me in Australia but have chosen Australian
National University because of specific reasons. The course that is being offered is suiting my
career requirements perfectly. Moreover, I would be able to stay in the heart of capital state of
Australia.

Australian National University is known for its excellent and innovative teaching practices to
meet the academic and professional needs of the students. An extremely distinguished faculty,
good academic activities and a post graduate programme which blends high quality course work
and research facilities at the cutting edge of every sub field are the factors which have motivated
me to choose Australian National University of Queensland for my higher studies. I believe the
programme offered will help me acquire the adaptability need to reach me full potential as an
engineer.

The course curriculum includes subjects like Control Systems, Finite Elemnet Analysis,
Operations Management, Manufacturing Technologies and Robotics, which will help me to
develop my skills and knowledge in engineering sciecnce theory and practice. With my strong
academic background and keenness for post-graduate study, I am confident that I will live up to
the high academic standards of Australian National University.

Future Plans:

Immediately after completing my post graduation course in Australia, I would like to continue
with a PhD. My research interests are finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics,
CAD/CAM, machine tool and metal cutting. Teeming with my interests, your University has
excellent coursework and research facilities and encouraging work environment. Cognizant of
the diligent and dedicated efforts expected of me, I assure you that I will make the best use of the
facilities that your esteemed university has to offer. I would consider myself worthy of admission
into Master’s Program or a Research Program.

My credentials combined with my diligent attitude towards studies gives me the confidence to
claim that, if provided an opportunity, I would acquaint myself creditably and there by contribute
to the academic milieu of the university to the best of my ability. Finally I would like to thank
you for giving me an opportunity to express myself and I am sure that my study in master’s
program can realize my long-term goals.
