C E R T I F I C AT I O N ?
1. Preliminary audit (optional).
The auditors conduct a preliminary assessment to deter-
mine which requirements of the ISO 50001 standard, if
any, have already been implemented by your organization
and which, if any, have potential vulnerabilities or are yet
to be addressed.
2. Certification audit.
The certification process occurs in two stages: The first
part of the process involves the audit team verifying,
among other things, whether your EnMS meets the re-
quirements of ISO 50001. The second part of the process
involves the audit team verifying the implementation and
effectiveness of your EnMS.
3. Certificate issuance.
Once your organization has successfully demonstrated
conformance to the ISO 50001 standard and the imple-
mentation and effectiveness of your EnMS to achieve its
intended results, you will receive your certificate. At that

time, your organization will be entered into our online
Certipedia certificate database and you can promote the
ISO 50001 certification of your EnMS with the
TÜV Rheinland seal.
4. Surveillance audits.
During the annual surveillance audits, our auditors verify
the continual improvement of EnMS processes and ascer-
tain whether your organization has maintained its confor-
mance to the standard.
5. Recertification.
By recertifying before the end of the three-year certi-
fication cycle, you will be able to sustain the continual
improvement of your EnMS and energy performance.
You will also be able to provide 3rd-party documented
evidence to your partners and customers demonstrating
your organization’s commitment to enhanced energy
performance.
