General Instructions:
1. This question paper contains three sections – A, B and C. Each part is compulsory.
2. Section - A has 6 short answer type (SA1) questions of 2 marks each.
3. Section – B has 4 short answer type (SA2) questions of 3 marks each.
4. Section - C has 4 long answer type questions (LA) of 4 marks each.
5. There is an internal choice in some of the questions.
6. Q14 is a case-based problem having 2 sub parts of 2 marks each.
SECTIO N – A
1. Let T be the set of all triangles in a plane with R a relation in T given by R = {(T 1, T2) : T1 is
congruent to T2}. Show that R is an equivalence relation.
2. Show that the function f : N N, given by f (1) = f (2) = 1 and f (x) = x – 1, for every x > 2, is
onto but not one-one.

OR
Consider f : {1, 2, 3} {a, b, c} and g : {a, b, c} {apple, ball, cat defined as f (1) = a,
f (2) = b, f (3) = c, g(a) = apple, g(b) = ball and g(c) = cat. Show that f, g and gof are invertible.
Find out f –1, g–1 and (gof)–1 and show that
(gof) –1 = f –1og–1.

CASE STUDY:
Two men on either side of a temple of 30 meters high observe its top at the angles of elevation 𝛼
and 𝛽 respectively. (as shown in the figure above). The distance between the two men is 40√3
meters and the distance between the first person A and the temple is 30√3 meters.
