Once there lived a talkative tortoise in a large lake. He was friends with two geese.
They lived together happily for many years.
Then it didn’t rain for a long time. The water in the lake dried up and the soil
cracked. All the birds and animals started moving away in search of food and
water.
The geese also decided to fly way. They met the tortoise to say goodbye. He asked
them to take him along. He told the geese to fetch a strong stick and hold its ends
with their beaks. He held the stick in the middle with his teeth. Then he asked
them to fly away slowly.
The geese agreed to do so but only if the tortoise kept quiet. He promised to not
say a word as long as they were in the air. They flew higher, over fields and hills.
When they flew over a city, the people looked up and started laughing at this
strange sight.
The tortoise got furious. As soon as he started to shout at the people, he lost hold
