SUGGESTED FORMAT IN ANALYZING A CASE

Written case analysis should be typewritten or computer-printed on bond paper, size 8 ½ x 11. Provide a
margin of 1 ½ on top, bottom and both sides of the paper, All written case analysis must have a covering
page indicating:

1. Title of the Case


2. Date of Submission
3. Names of Group Members

1. Time Context. Specifically determine the period (year the problem of the case occurred.
Example June 20, 2018 or simply 2018. If no date is indicated in the case mention no specific
date provided in the case.

2. Point of View. In analyzing and solving a business case, assume a business manager, some body
higher in the organization – who is able to see the many departments or unit of the company;
one who can make a decision. Example: Chairman of the Board, or President or General
Manager or Controller or Treasurer or Marketing Manager or Production Manager.

3. Main Problem. Among the many problems confronting the company, Identify the main
Problem (Core Problem), which will form the focus of your analysis and appropriate course of
action. What and where is the problem and when did it happen. It must be a business problem.
Use a problem tree when presenting orally. The problem maybe stated in a question form or in
a general statement, citing the particular deviation. You may also include secondary or sub-
problems.

4. Objective/s. The objective/s of solving the problem and improving the business condition. Use
the objectives tree when presenting orally.

5. Areas of Consideration. These are the various factors or areas of concerns identifies and
grouped together, the cause and effect, the possible reasons for the identified problem
(deviation, faults, defect, short coming). Valid assumptions maybe included in analyzing the case
but should not deviate far from the actual facts of the case.

6. Alternative Courses of Actions (ACA). These are the possible answers or solutions to the main
problem identified. Each of the ACA should be able to solve the problem independently, should
be realistic and workable. Any ACA that will not solve the problem should be deleted. Pros and
Cons of each ACA maybe incorporated and necessary. Use the alternatives tree when presenting
orally.

7. Recommendation/s. Adopting the best alternative course of action that will best solve the Main
Problem identified. It may mean the adoption of one or all of the ACA.

8. Action Plans. These are the activities lined up to implement the final recommendation to be
implemented. Firm up the specific strategies to successfully launched the campaign towards
arresting the current problem or deviation affecting the company’s operations.

Exhibits. In a written case analysis, all tables, diagrams, graphs and lengthy calculations are to be
labeled “exhibits”. These exhibits are to be place at the end of the paper, and should be
numbered consecutively in the order in which they are introduced in the text.

Computer Usage. One requirement of the paper is that it show evidence of computer use. Show
computer literacy by using word processing, spreadsheets, graphics and sensitivity techniques in
forecast and analysis.
