Good Afternoon class!

Good Afternoon Ma’am Niña
You may now take your seats.

How are you today?

We are good Ma’am
That’s great

Class Secretary is there any absent today?

Goodmorning Ma’am I’m
Glad to say that no one is
absent today
I’m glad to hear that we don’t have any absentees today.
Did I give you an assignment last meeting?

Ok, Please get your assignments and pass it forward.

Yes Ma’am

A.Reviewing the lesson or presenting the new lesson (Elicit) (Students passing their
assignments)

Kindly observe the table and tell me which of the table is the plant cell
and which is the animal cell and why?

B.Establishing a purpose for the lesson(Engage)

Picture Analysis-"Odd One Out".

(Show pictures of multi - cellular plants and animals and a single-
celled bacteria, fungi and protist)

There are different pictures posted on the board, you need to identify
which among the pictures do not belong to the group? Are you ready? I think Letter A is the animal
cell because animal cell doesn’t
have cell wall and chloroplast
Why did you choose the picture/s to be eliminated? while letter B is the plant cell
because plant cell doesn’t have
centrioles.

What can you conclude about those pictures of organisms that were
eliminated?
Yes Ma’am!
Exactly! Some organisms don’t have the characteristics of plants and
animals therefore; they belong to the other groups of organisms. And for
you to find out those groups, you are going to have an activity.
Because those organisms don’t
C.Presenting examples/Instances of the new lesson (Explore) have the characteristics of plants
and animals.
I will group you into five. There are five learning stations and each
station has a specimen or picture to be observed. Group 1 will start in Those organisms do not belong
station #1, group 2 in station #2, group 3 in station #3, group 4 in station to the animal and plant group.
#4 and group 5 in station #5. I will give you 3 minutes for each station
and when you hear the bell rings, you need to proceed to the next station
until you complete all the stations. Are you ready?

Timer starts now!

(See attached activity sheet)

Alright, Time’s up! Kindly answer the guide questions in the activity and
prepare your output to be presented by the leader of each group.

D.Discussing new concepts an practicing new skills (Explain)

Now let us discuss the result of your activity.

Sample no.1 Group 1 tell us what have you observe

The students will answer the

guide questions.

Very good group 1! Thank you for sharing your observation with us.

The name of the specimen is

mushroom and it is not a plant.
It is not a plant ma’am because
it lacks characteristics to be a
In addition to what have group 1 said plant like having a green color.
A mushroom is not a plant because it belongs to the kingdom fungi. It
does not contain chlorophyll which is responsible for giving green
pigment to the plat and most are considered saprophytes meaning they
obtain nutrition from metabolizing non-living organic matter.

How about the group 2? Present here your observation.

Base from our observation the

one we see is a plant. It is a
seaweed. We say that it’s a plant
Thank you very much group 2 for sharing your observation with because it is green in color.
us.Group number 2 is right that specimen is called a seaweed. But even .
though it is green in color seaweeds does not belong to the kingdom of
plants. It belongs to kingdom Protista.Seaweed is not a plant. Although it
looks like a plant, it's really a type of algae. Even though it can make its
own food it lacks characteristics of a plant like having true roots stems
and leaves.

Group 3 show us the table of your comparison and differences of the two
specimen.

One is green, the other is white,

brown, or grey.
Both have root-like, stem-like
or fruit-like parts.
Button mushrooms and other
plants that are found in the
ocean or water like red algae.
I often see mushroom in our
surroundings ma’am and in
some dishes mushroom is used.
Ma’am seaweeds are also used
in some dishes like in salad and
some are found in an aquarium.
I
Thank you very much group 3.t
So group 3 said the differences and similarities between the two like their
colors and structures. s
Most mushroom are found in trees, in decaying woods while most
t
seaweeds or algae are found in the water like the ocean.
i

Let’s hear it from the group 4. Please share your observation with us.

We think it is not a plant

because even it is not green in
color and even if it has a leaf
like parts it still lack
characteristics to be a plant like
roots to absorb water.

-

Thankyou so much group 4 that specimen is called lichen. Lichen a

composite organism that arises from algae.

Very Good, Even though it has leaf like parts and green in color lichen is
still not a plant it doesn’t have roots to absorb water and nutrients. Lichen
and algae has a symbiotic relationship. The algae makes the food and the
fungus or the lichen protects the algae. A mutually helpful relationship
Let’s have the last group .

Tell us what have you observed.

Letter A are bacteria.While in

letter B we have observe that
the banana peel has white amag
and the letter C has black dots
also calledamag.
Letter D ma’am has green stuff
and base from what we know it
is moss

Thank you very much group 5.

Let’s discuss it one by one the letter Z in the potato is a colony of bacteria
it is white in color.
Bacteria belongs to kingdom
Do you know in what kingdom do bacteria belong?
Monera

Verygood! Bacteria belongs to the kingdom called Monera.

Do you know Yakult contains a Bacteria called Lacto Bacillus and it is a

good bacteria

I think Ma’am it belongs to the

Kingdom of fungi because it
Sample B as you can see it has white cottony thread like growth on it and
lives in a decaying material and
your classmates said it is called amag the same with letter C but it is in
absorb nutrition from it.
tiny black dots this are also amag or what we called molds. What
kingdom do you think these molds belong?

Yes that’s right molds in bread and in banana peel belongs to the
kingdom of fungi they absorb their food in those materials and they
reproduce by making spores.
Ma’am letter d is a dark green
and a slimy stuff
How about letter d? How would you describe it?
Ma’am I think moss belongs to
Based on our discussion how would you generalize our topic for today?
the group of algae to the
kingdom protist
Very good description and like what group 5 said that dark green and
slimy stuff is called moss or lumot in tagalog.
In what kingdom do you think those moss belong?

That’s right moss are also called green algae and like the seaweeds it
belongs to the kingdom protest.
G.Finding practical applications of concept and skills in daily
living(Elaborate)
The teacher will asks the students a question:
What do you think is the harmful and beneficial use of the other organism
like the bacteria, the fungi and the protest?
Some bacteria are harmful
because they can cause disease.
There are good bacteria like the
Lacto Bacillus. Most bacteria
are helpful because they help in
recycling nutrients and even in
food production

Protist can cause disease in

humans and in plant like malaria
and potato blight.
Protist like algae are important
to freshwater and salt water
environments because they
provide food and produces
oxygen.

Fungi can cause disease. One of

the most important roles of
fungi is to decompose organic
material and return nutrients to
the soil.

F.Making generalization and abstraction about the lesson(Elaborate)

Base from our discussion how would you generalize our topic for today?
Ma’am there are living things or
organism that cannot be readily
identified by their usual parts
like those of plants.
Very good how about the others?
Ma’am like what he said those
with stems, roots, leaves, or
fruits are not always plants they
may have green color or may be
able to make their own food but
they are classified into different
kingdoms.

What are 3 other kingdoms that we have discussed? Ma’am the 3 other kingdoms are
Kingdom of Fungi, Protist and
Monera

Yes that’s right not all living organism belongs to the kingdom Animalia
or Plantae.

G.Evaluating Learning (Evaluation)

1.The green alga, Caulerpa, and mushrooms both have some

characteristics similar to plants. What are these characteristics common
to both that are also found in plants?
I.GreenColor for food making. II.Stem like parts
III.SporesIV.Fruit-like parts

A. I and II C. I and III

B. II and III D. II and IV
2.Just like many living things, fungi have certain needs to survive. What
are these needs?

I Food
II Air and water
III Sunlight and soil
IV Water

A.I and II C. I and III

B.II and III D. II and IV

3.Fungi cannot make their own food. What is the effect of their food
getting activities?

A. Decomposition of living things

B. Production of starch
C. Trapping of solar energy
D. Release of oxygen

4.What characteristic differentiates fungi, algae and bacteria from the

plants studied in Grades 3-6 aside from their small size?

A. They do not have true roots, true leaves, true stems, fruits and
flowers.*
B. Most do not make their own food unlike plants.
C. They are at the base of the food chain while animals are at the
top.
D. They cause diseases while plants and animals have many uses.
5. What kind of relationship does lichen and algae have?
A. Commensalism C. Mutualism
B. Parasitism D. Predation

H. Additional activities for application or remediation (Extend)

List down other organism you can found in the environment and classify
