EVALUATION AND ASSESSMENT METHODS

Evaluation will consist of objective tests, practical tests, and computer assignments. I may add
or remove assessment items at any time. However, you will be given sufficient notice.

The first unit of your textbook, Getting Started in Office 2016, should be covered. It is not an
assigned section, but it is very helpful if you have not worked in Excel 2016.
BOT 1823 Microsoft Excel I Page 3

Your grades will come from two areas:

Assignments—Assignments are given for each chapter. You will have a detailed assignment
sheet under Modules for every chapter letting you know what is to be turned in for grading.
Assignments may come from the Projects found within the chapters or the exercises located at
the end of every chapter in the eBook. SNAP will be utilized for completing coursework.
Assignments are worth 50 points each.

Tests—You will be given four theory tests and three performance tests. The theory tests will be
objective. At the end of each chapter are a Chapter Summary and a Commands Review. Be
sure to review the commands and online study tools to use as review for tests. You are not to
submit them for grading. Refer to the Important Dates for test dates. Theory tests are worth
50 points each except for Exam 4 (Final Exam) which is worth 100 points, and performance tests
are worth 100 points each. They will be divided as follows:

 Exam 1—Level 1 Chapters 1 – 4

 Exam 2—Level 1 Chapters 5 – 7
 Exam 3—Level 2 Chapters 3, 4 & 6
 Exam 4—Level 2 Chapter 8 (Performance portion is comprehensive.*)

At least one of your tests will be proctored. The information needed to set up your proctored
test can be found on MGCCC’s eLearning website - http://www.mgccc.edu/elearning/

*MGCCC Students: The OPAC Exam is a proctored test that must be taken in order to
complete BOT 1823 successfully. Failure to take this exam will result in a grade of 68/F for the
course. (see information under OFFICE PROFICIENCY ASSESSMENT & CERTIFICATION section)

GRADING SYSTEM
Your grading scale is based on a point system. It is simply a percentage of the points you have
earned out of the total possible points. You can compute your grade at any time—just take the
number of points you have earned and divide that number by the total possible points and then
multiply by 100. This method will give you your number grade. Use the scale below to look up
your letter grade.

% of Points Grade

93-100 A

85-92 B

75-84 C

70-74 D

Below 70 F

PARTICIPATION AND ATTENDANCE

Even though this is an online class, attendance is mandatory and will count. Online classes are
offered as a convenience to our students. We realize that different circumstances make it
impossible for some students to attend traditional college classes. Fortunately, the Internet has
provided us with a vehicle to deliver our classes to you in the convenience of your home. In
turn, however, you are expected to follow some basic guidelines and policies to be a successful
online student. If you do not log in regularly, you will get behind and quickly become lost—just
like if you miss classes in the traditional classroom! Therefore, you are expected to log in
several times a week (when and where is up to you). Assignment due dates and tests are listed
in the Important Dates file under Modules. It is up to you to abide by those deadlines. Most
students drop or fail online courses because they cannot develop the habit of logging in to
allow themselves enough time to complete assignments by the due dates.

No late work will be accepted! If you fail to turn in an assignment on time, you will be counted
absent, and you will receive a grade of zero (0) for that assignment. You are allowed only three
absences—on the fourth absence you will be dropped. Remember, if I don’t hear from you, I
cannot help you. If you are having problems, please communicate!

You can expect to spend about 8 hours (or more) a week (depending on your computer skills) in
this class. This time will include reading the lessons, working the exercises, working on your
assignments and communicating with your classmates and instructor.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
Dishonesty will not be tolerated! You are expected to do your own work on all assignments and
tests. Violation of this principle constitutes academic dishonesty, and disciplinary action will be
taken. At any time (except during tests) you are allowed and encouraged to communicate with
other classmates and your instructor about procedures regarding your exercises. However, you
are expected to complete all of your assignments and tests on your own. If you read the lessons
and complete your assignments, you will not have any trouble with the tests in this course.
