Adverbs and Comparative adverbs

Adverbs

We use adverbs to describe VERBS.- they say HOW an action is or

was performed.

1. Run quickly. (quick- ADJ)

ADJ +ly- quick-quickly/ slow- slowly/nice nicely

2. She shouted angrily. (angry- ADJ.)

ADJ- consonant +y=y-i +ly

angry- angrily/ lucky- luckily/ hungry- hungrily

3. They got to the theatre early. (early)

Irregular adverbs

early-early/ late- late/ fast-fast/ hard-hard/ good-well/

We can also use adverbs before adjectives.

It was really cold on Sunday.

The coffee was incredibly hot, so aI couldn't drink it.

Comparative adverbs

To compare adverbs we use the same rules as we do when we

compare adj.

SHORT ADVERBS

ADV+er and than

I worked hard but Sue worked harder than me.

LONG ADVERBS

More+ Adv+ than

She does things more easily than me.

IRREGULAR ADV

fast-faster/ hard/ harder/ late- later/ early-earlier

!!!well-BETTER than He cooks better than me.

badly- WORSE than

far- FURTHER than

London to New York is further than London to Paris.
