1.0 PURPOSE :

To outline instructions for testing of non-metallic inclusion presence in raw material


and fasteners.

2.0 SCOPE :

The recognized test method suitable for determining non-metallic inclusion rating.

3.0 DEFINITIONS AND ABBREVIATIONS : NIL.

4.0 DESCRIPTION :

ACTIVITY REFERENCE

4.1 Take the samples as per sampling plan for finished material and one number per
lot / heat for raw material. WI-8208

4.1.1 Cut the samples in longitudinal direction.

4.2 Prepare the Metallographic sample without etching.

4.3 Place the specimen on the microscope stage and start the examination with full area.
Search for the worst Field, that is, the highest severity rating of each inclusion
type A,B,C, and D for both the thin and heavy series. The Severity level of these
worst fields shall be reported for every specimen examined as per ASTM E45/as per
DIN 50602 verify inclusion as per method K if any Customer requirement.

4.4 ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA:

As mentioned in raw material engineering standard LES RM 001 OR Customer


requirement if any.

As per DIN 50602 method K the inclusion shall be K3<20 for specific Customer
requirement.
