Lesson 6 Couch Potato

BASIC INFORMATION
Summary The students are expected to identify the central message/ lesson as well as
compare and contrast the events of other characters in stories. Knowing the central
ideas and key details will help in the comparing and contrasting of other stories.

Lesson Objective(s) Students will be able to compare and contrast the adventures and experiences of
characters in stories.
PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS
Differentiated -All students will be on the carpet to have a clearer view of the book.
Instruction/UDL/ -I will swing the book in a semi-circular motion to allow all children the chance to
CSP/SDAIE interact with text.
-On the floor will be an easel and the children in the back are free to stand to
answer a question when I need to write in the easel.

ASSESSMENT
Assessment of By the end of the lesson, students Are able to compare and contrast adventures
Learning and experiences from other stories. Prior to the Couch Potato, we read the Bad
Seed, The Good Egg, and the Cool Bean.
LEARNING EXPERIENCES
Sequence of Activities First I will remind the students that when analyzing stories, we can develop main
ideas and key details to understand the central lesson of the text and what the
author's purposes are.
. Once that occurs, in the story can a lesson doing that as well as forming main
ideas helps us compare and contrast characters' different stories through main
ideas.
Next, I will begin to read the Couch Potato through an interactive read aloud.
I will stop every now and then to ask students how they feel about the text; things
that stood out to them, and ask, `` Why do you think the character did that?“
As we conclude the text, I will ask the students to recap events that happened in
the story as well as what they think the central lesson/main idea of the story was.
We will build on each other‘s ideas to form a cohesive central lesson statement that
I will write on the easel on the carpet.
The easel on the carpet is divided in quadrants each with a picture of the main
character along with the central lesson on the bottom that each story had to offer.

CLOSURE
Closure Emphasize being able to compare and contrast the adventures and experiences of
characters in stories is important as a reader to be able to better comprehend texts.
