System requirements

1 Introduction
TKD Scorer Lite is a simple PC-based program designed to cater for small
Taekwondo clubs not having the resources, money, or infrastructure to purchase full-
blown Taekwondo scoring systems. The simple interface affords competitors the
opportunity to become familiar with a tournament setting without leaving the familiar
club environment.

The best way to use TKD Scorer Lite is by using an external monitor/television
connected to a laptop/notebook computer. The external monitor faces the competitors
and audience. Switch the laptop monitor mode to dual mode so the display is show on
both the laptop's screen and the external monitor. Position 3 referees on the corners
of the mat, and devise a simple scoring detection system. For example, a referee may
hold up a blue flag or red flag when it is felt a point is scored. A 'marshal' then calls
out the point so the data operator can enter the appropriate point.

The registered version also supports the use of up to 4 USB gamepads for
scoring purposes.

The trial version does not have the same functionality as the
registered licensed version. Some of the configuration options will
be absent, e.g., electronic scoring is not possible with the trial
version, and round duration is ignored (it is of random duration).

The electronic version supports up to 4 corner judges.

Troubleshooting

7 Gamepad manager
The software assumes the same gamepad is used by all judges. The default button
configuration is stored in TKDScore.INI. See
Troubleshooting: Gamepad button presses not registering for more details.

However, if you wish to temporarily change a button configuration for a specific

gamepad, you can use the Gamepad manager.

1. Right-click in the TKD Scorer Lite screen and select Gamepad manager ... from
the popup menu.

2. Select the judge from the list on the left hand side.
3. Click in the edit field of the button you want to change.
4. Either enter the new value, or press the button on the gamepad.
5. Repeat from step 3 until all button changes for the selected judge have been
made.
6. Click on the Apply button.
7. Repeat from step 2 until changes for all judges have been performed.

8.1 Gamepad button presses not registering

Gamepad button events are monitored by the software by polling the gamepad state.

Circumstances under which button presses may be missed are

1. The PC is unusually slow (very unlikely) or the gamepad driver is installed or

configured incorrectly.
2. The software is configured to detect the wrong buttons.

In Control Panel, open the Game Controllers applet.

Select your gamepad, and click on the Properties button. If your gamepad is not
listed, either the gamepad driver has not been installed correctly or the gamepad is
incompatible.

Most gamepads have a diagnostic mode where you can test the gamepad. This varies
depending on the make and model. The image below refers to the Logitechâ
PrecisionÔ gamepad.
28 TKD Olympic Scorer Troubleshooting 28

If the diagnostics indicates the buttons are operating correctly, it is likely the software
is configured to detect different buttons to the one's you are pressing. By default, the
software is configured for the Logitechâ PrecisionÔ gamepad as follows:

Point type Button

Red 1 point 5
Red 2 point 7
Red 3 point 9
Red 4 point 1
Blue 1 point 6
Blue 2 point 8
Blue 3 point 10
Blue 4 point 3

Using NotePad, these values may be changed in TKDScore.INI. In TKDScore.INI, the

following lines refer to the point type and the corresponding button:

R1=5
R2=7
R3=9
R4=1
29 TKD Olympic Scorer Troubleshooting 29

B1=6
B2=8
B3=10
B4=3

R1 denotes 'Red 1 point', R2 denotes 'Red 2 point', B1 denotes 'Blue 1 point', and so
on.

Therefore R1=5 indicates button 5 on the gamepad is used to signal a single point for
the red player. For example, if you were using an older gamepad and wanted to use
butons 1-4, you might make the following change to TKDScore.INI:

R1=1
R2=3
B1=2
B2=4

The next time the software is run, the following button configuration would be used:

Point type Button

Red 1 point 1
Red 2 point 3
Blue 1 point 2
Blue 2 point 4

8.2 Gamepad button presses are registering but no points are

awarded
This is the most commonly encountered problem, and the easiest to rectify. The
software is configured to require synchronized button presses from more judges than
there are gamepads.

For example, the software might be configured to need agreement from two judges
but only one gamepad is in use. To rectify this problem, change the
Buttons to register in the Configuration to 1.
