The Happy Prince Reflection

By J.C Baguio

There were many things that I learned while reading The Happy prince. I learned it was a
story of poverty during Oscar Wilde’s life and also it showed the difference between the
lifestyle of the rich and the poor. There were many things that I liked about story like
the delivery of riches to the poor by the Swallow and the lesson that it teaches you at
the end. In the story The Happy Prince is the protagonist or the main character, he has
many admirable traits that make me like him. His traits are his admiration for the people
in the city, not only the rich but the poor as well, his kindness towards the ones who
made the poor as they are now like the mayor of the city not taking care of the poverty
or the blissful ignorance of his councilors. Also the generosity of The Happy Prince is
very highlighted trait, it is the main driving force of the story, he repeatedly shows this
trait countless times but alas he cannot continue because his body is not unlimited nor
infinite.

I think the message of the story is to generous to the people around you and not only
the people you know but also complete strangers who are always grateful for
somebody’s help. To help in the community even if it is a small contribution has a large
impact as a whole if done many times. If everybody were to help everybody then I think
that everybody will be happy and full of joy. When the angels came to retrieve the souls
of the dead Swallow and The Happy Prince I was satisfied at their ending because they
did all their best to help in the community and they were rewarded quite equal to their
actions. Because of the actions of both the characters everybody in the city is quite
joyful and happy due to them.
