Reflection paper by Jethro Bangot

The story of The Happy Prince is a story full of kindness and love. I read the story only last night
and it was very good, I understood as love of things about it like how charity is a good action
towards the poor. The introduction of the Swallow I think is a nice touch because its job is to
give back to the poor. The first part of the story shows us the mayor saying that the statue is
beautiful but I think this is very ignorant of him because this does not help with the current
problem of the city which is poverty and the rich and poor of the city.
In the middle of the story the Swallow has made friends with the statue and it has a job of
delivering jewels to poor people around the city so that they can eat and be happy. This is like
charity. The statue is very generous the reason for this was because when he was a human he
did not experience any sadness whatsoever so upon seeing that the people of the city were sad
the statue gave them his riches and gold so that they cannot experience sadness.
At the end of the story after saving many families from hunger the Swallow dies but before that
he says goodbye to the statue which is very sad. After seeing the Swallow dead the statue’s
heart is broken and is thrown away by the mayor because it is grey and unattractive. The
Swallow and the statue are now together even after death, they both go into heaven and
receive the thanks of God for their charitable work.
The story is very good because it shows that is people helped other people then the world can
be good and full of happiness.
