I. Summary
The article entitled with “The Dignity and Vocation of Homosexual Persons” by CBCP News
sited that God created human beings as either male or female and intended for them to
complement each other in a union of the two. And human sexuality, which is classified as either
masculine or feminine, is designed by nature to lead to that union, of one with the other.
“Therefore, a man leaves his father and his mother and cleaves to his wife, and they become one
flesh” (Gen. 2:24).
To make it simple, God ordained marriage as the structure of existence in which man and
woman's complementarity would be completed and perfected once they were formed, according
to Scripture.
Up until now, the issue about same-sex attraction or homosexual tendencies and inclinations
remains elusive. Yet, research conducted at various levels in various branches of science and
medicine indicates that male and female homosexuality have biological and environmental
causes, despite their differences in character. It is not a sin to have a sexual attraction to someone
of the same sex. However, it is objectively disordered in light of our understanding of marriage,
in the sense that it is not structured towards the union of male and female in a natural
complementary relationship. Nevertheless, Catholics are prohibited from participating in or
attending religious or legal rituals that celebrate and legitimate homosexual partnerships in any
form. This will, understandably, be an especially difficult cross for families who have been
affected by homosexuality. The Church reaches out to the families whose loved ones have
engaged into such unions with compassion.
In conclusion, the Catholic Church is called to proclaim the power of grace via prayer and Holy
Communion, as well as the mercy of Jesus Christ in the sacrament of penance, to homosexual
individuals who are lured either to pride or despair. The church does not condemn nor hate
homosexual people. Instead of, they are
still loved by the Church and the one true God.
I have learned that as a part of the Church, I must love the homosexuals as well. I must not treat
them as sinful members of the congregation, but I must treat them with respect and proper
decency. I realized that the Church embodies the love of the Father through embracing
homosexuality. It is still one body despite its various and unique parts. Even though some
Catholics are labeled as homosexuals, the Church still considers them as a part of the Kingdom of
God. However, the Church is against homosexual acts, which is exhibiting sexual acts between
the same sex.
V. Sharing
I have shared this article to my cousin, Althea. She agrees with the Church believes in. She said
that we must respect homosexual persons from now on since that it is the stand of the Church.
She also added that we should love, respect, and accept everyone for we are all brothers and
sisters regardless of their sexual orientation.
