ACTIVITY 2
The 10 levels of Biological Organization
CELL - known to be the basic building blocks of life. It performs various metabolic functions
like providing structure and rigidity to the body.

TISSUE - When similar cell aggregate, they form a tissue. A group of


interconnected cells that perform functions.

ORGANS - Coming from latin word "organum" means "tool" or "instrument".


A collection of tissues and similar structures.

ORGAN SYSTEM - Next to hierarchy is the organ system. An association


of different organs and other anatomical structures.

ORGANISM - Can be simply defined as any living thing that is composed of


various organ system that function altogether.

POPULATION - When similar organism group, together, they form the


next level in the organization. A population is formed when such individuals reside
a common environment at a given time.

COMMUNITIES - Defined as the interactions of different


populations with each other. Apparently, various interractions can exist
such as mutualism,commusalism,predation,parasitism and competition.

ECOSYSTEM - The interactions of (organism,population and community)


to their abiotic or non-living environment. A "riche" or role to perform"

BIOME - Described by the different environment, a biome is a very huge


geographic area when various ecosystems exist and different
organism adapt to it. Biome is more of the continental grouping of various ecosystems in a particular
climate.

BIOSPHERE - Greek word "bios" meaning "life" and "sphaira" meaning "sphere". The biosphere is made up of the
parts of Earth where life exists . The biosphere extends from the deepest roosystems of trees to the dark
environment of ocean trenches, to lush rain forests and high mountaintops .
