Semester: 3rd Date of performance:

Subject Name: BOFM lab Subject Code: ASP-205

Aim: Determine the values of the coefficients µ Nexp=φNexp and €nexp for external cylindrical ,and
conical (converging and diverging ) nozzles at H= const.

Apparatus required: Pressure tank, lever valve, rotary turret, round hole and nozzles of various
types, and a stop watch.

The value of φexp is 0.4583 for round hole nozzle, 0.4543 for cylindrical nozzle, 0.4563 for conical
convergent nozzle and 0.28005 for conical divergent nozzle.

Therefore, we found out that the shape of the trajectories for different nozzle shapes are different.

Learning outcomes

1. we learn that as the fluid particle move to the hole along the curvilinear trajectories, due to
inertial forces, the jet continues to shrink after exiting the hole.

2. we learn that as the shape of the nozzle changes the shape of the trajectories of the fluid from the
pressure tank changes

3. we learn about the calculation of flow rate of fluid flowing from the nozzle.

4. we learn about the calculations of various coefficients of various shapes of nozzles.

5. we learn that the value of the coefficients of these nozzles depends on the shape of the holes and
the Reynolds number.

Sources of error:

1. Be careful while taking the readings of measuring tank

2. Ensure that stopwatch had been switched on at the right time for calculation.
3. Ensure that the graphs for different nozzles should have different trajectory.
