2022

Objective
The main objective of Cansat2022 is to design a Cansat that shall consist of a container and a
Payload.
The payload shall be attached to the container by a 10 meter long tether.
The cansat shall descend using a parchute at a rate of 15m/s
At 400 meters it will deploy a larger parachute to reduce the descent rate to 5m/s.
At 300 meters, the cansat shall release a Tethered payload to a distance of 10 meters in 20 sec.
The payload shall maintain the orientation of a video camera pointing in south direction.
The camera shall be pointed 45 degrees downward to assure terrain.
Requirements
The science payload shall include a pressure sensor, temperature sensor and rotation sensor.
The science payload shall include a video camera pointing 45 degrees up from the payload
NADIR direction.
The science payload shall maintain orientation so the camera always faces south within +/-
20 Degrees.
The payload shall be connected to the container with a 10 meter tether.
At 300 meters the payload shall be release from the container at a rate of 0.5 meters per
second.
Pressure Sensor

A pressure sensor is an instrument consisting of a pressure sensitive element


to determine the actual pressure applied to the sensor. The sensor uses
different working principles such as capacitive pressure. Sensors and piezo-
resistive pressure sensors. These sensors can convert the pressure into an
output signal.

The sensor BMP180 measures the absolute pressure. It has a measuring


range from 300 to 1100hPa with an accuracy down to 0.02hPa. It can also
measure altitude and temperature.

The BMP180 barometric sensor can communicates via I2C interface(Inter


Integrated Circuit), which means it communicates just with two pins.
Temperature Sensor
A temperature sensor is a thermocouple or a resistance temperature detector. It collects the temperature from a specific
source and change the collected information into understandable type.

Different types of temperature sensors are:

• Thermocouples

• Thermistors

• Resistor temperature detectors

• Semiconductors

• Infrared sensors

• Thermometers

Humidity sensor DTH11

It is used as a Temperature and humidity sensor. The sensor is composed by a NTC(Negative


Temperature Coefficient) to measure temperature and an 8-bit microcontroller to output the values of
temperature and humidity as serial data. The sensor can measure temperature from 0 degree Celsius to
50 degree Celsius from 20% to 90% with an accuracy of +/-1 degree Celsius and +/- 1%.
Rotation Sensor
Rotation Sensors are a type of sensor used for measuring rotary displacement. They can
measure these rotary movements in either clockwise or anticlockwise directions. Rotation
sensors are used in a variety of environments and applications to ensure the components
within the device are working correctly.
NADIR
NADIR describes the direction below a particular location, Opposite the zenith Direction as shown in
figures given below. Nadir-pointing is the action of pointing directly below the satellite perpendicular
to Earth.
Tether
A tether hangs from an orbiting satellite. When the new satellite or space probe is alunched, the
spinning tether system captures it and essentially flings it farther from the earth,using a method such as
this would greatly reduce the altitude to which an object would have to be launched.
