Missing Part of Me
My grandparents raised us when we were a child because my father and mother were both
working in Manila and had to leave us in their care. It was difficult for me to be left in the care of
another person by my parents at that time. I'm always thinking about why my parents aren't here
with us, and I always keep crying because I miss them. I began my education there, and those
were my sad days Because I am unable to ask my grandparents to attend a parent meeting, and I
have no one to turn to. I feel bad for them since we were raised by them. I understand how
difficult it was for them to raise us at their age. I didn't want them to get tired and sick, if they
become sick who would take care of us. One day my mother came home because they said they
missed us. But my grandparents, tell us to leave them because they have something to talk about
with my mother. When they’re finish talking, they told us she would go and live with my older
brother, he will continue his studies in Tarlac. I ask why I can't come with you. She replies that
she can’t raise us both. And then I started to cry. I started to hate my parents. I said in my mind
that I didn’t want to see them again. I started to think that they didn’t love me anymore, that’s
why they left me. I continued my life with my grandparents, being with them I realized that I
wasn’t feeling lonely. I am grateful to them for raising us and teaching us to become responsible.
Many years later my parents came again to pick me up to go with them to Tarlac. I don't know if
I could go with them because I can't afford to leave Grandma and Grandpa. I had a hard time
deciding whether to leave Grandpa and Grandma. Before I could choose, it was Grandpa and
Grandma who decided for me to go with my parents, but it hurt my heart to leave Grandma and
Grandpa because they took care of me for a few years. My parents told Grandpa and Grandma
that we would go home during the school vacation, Christmas, and New Year. What mama said
to Grandpa and Grandma came true. We always go home during holidays and Christmas. But
when the pandemic started, we couldn’t visit them. It’s been 2 years have passed since the last
time we have seen them.

Impact of the Pandemic Lockdown on the Economy and Lives of the Filipino People
The Philippines declared a lockdown when the first case of covid 19 was detected in the
Philippines in January 2020. President Rodrigo Duterte declared a state of public health
emergency in the country on March 8, and all classes in Manila and other provinces were
suspended because of the pandemic. On top of that, the business establishment was closed
because of pandemics. Also, change the life and work of the Pilipino people because some
people become unemployed; some others are working from home. As the lockdown will last
many people will go hungry. They can’t buy their own food because they don’t have money and
they don’t have a source of income; many families are just waiting for government assistance
and relief goods to distribute to them. The government chooses those who really need help like
families that have low income and unemployed households. Unemployment is not the only
problem; also, the Philippines' economy is deteriorating because of the lockdown, and consumer
confidence is eroding. International travel plummeted, tourism came to a halt, and the retail,
restaurant, and hotel industries were decimated by domestic lockdowns and mobility restrictions.
Government organizations have a problem before in choosing a vaccine that is affordable and
effective because the Philippines doesn’t have enough funds to buy an expensive Covid 19-
vaccine. They say that when the Covid 19-vaccines arrive in the Philippines, the government will
immediately test the Covid 19 vaccine to start the vaccination in Manila. Now, as of February
23, 2022, the Philippines had administered 134,927,975 total vaccine doses across the country,
with 62,889,604 people fully vaccinated. Now the government is deciding if they will lower the
alert level in Manila to increase the economy and lifting of regulations to improve business
activity. Some other government organizations are not supporting lowering the Manila
restriction; they say it will increase the cases again of covid 19 in the Philippines. But now the
government needs to make its decision for the sake of the life of the Filipino people because
some families don’t have any food on their table. In this time of lockdown, many people are
affected by it, and they can’t do anything about it because that’s the decision of the government
sector to initiate the lockdown to protect life and prioritize the health of all Filipino people. Even
their normal life will be affected or changed by that decision made by a government
organization.
