General Physics 2

Performance Task No.2

Name of Student: Justine Vir C. Damasing Date Performed: March 19, 2022

Year and Section: Grade 12 - St. Dominic of Osma Date submitted: March 22, 2022

Title of Activity: Electric Current Illustration

Objective/s:
At the end of the experiment, learners are expected to;
1. Explore and understand how charge flows with electric current.

Materials Needed:
Plastic straw
Little peas

Procedure:
1. Be sure that the peas can move freely inside the straw.
2. Place the straw flat on a table and fill the straw with peas.
3. When you pop one pea in at one end, a different pea should pop out the other end. This
is an analogy for an electric current.

Note: Take a video of yourselves when you start doing procedures numbered 1, 2 and 3.
The video shall be submitted directly to my email address (lalainegamolo@srcb.edu.ph)
together with the recorded results on or before March 15, 2022. This is an individual task.

Questions:
1. Identify what compares to the electrons and what compares to the supply of energy.

Peas are like electron (negatively charged particles) that continuously moves
freely in a wire represented by the straw. Thus, the supply of energy is compared to the
pushing pressure of a piece of pea towards the inside of the straw filled also with peas in
which causes another pea to pop out the other end.

2. What other analogies can you find for an electric current? Note that the flow of peas is
based on the peas physically bumping into each other; electrons flow due to mutually
repulsive electrostatic forces.

The water hose analogy. Water hose can be analogized as water as the charge
per se and its flow on the hose as the current. Moreover, the pressure for the water to
flow is equated to the supply of energy or so called as voltage essentially.
